Hey, new guy in Daytona Beach here. I've been daily driving my 50cc 1999 Yamaha Jog for almost 4 years now. Got it for $400 with 1200 miles on the clock and rode the crap out of it. It's now sitting at 13,900 miles. Rode from West Palm Beach to St. Augustine and back twice. Spent 27 days scamping and touring South and central Florida. It's been an incredibly reliable and enjoyable little machine. Then I burned a hole in the piston. I bought a Prima 72cc BBK at around 8000 miles and planned to swap it out as soon as the odometer rolled back over to all zeroes. It was still running strong so I held off until now. I picked up a set of Polini jets sized 80-98, Stage 6 4g-5.5g roller weights, and a new gates belt before starting the install. Installing the BBK was way easier than I thought it would be. I was always a little intimidated to open up the engine. After doing it once, I see how simple these things are. No issues installing, and I didn't even have to drop the engine. After the installation, i checked the compression: 120psi. The old burnt setup had 72psi. I took out the stock 76 main jet and put in an 86. It ran awesome until it soft seized. After that I bumped it up to a 96 jet and dropped the needle clip down a notch. Then I decarbonized the stock pipe with oven cleaner overnight and a ton of crap came out. Now I've put about 100 miles on it and everything was good until yesterday, when I lost a few of the variator fins. Before that I was getting 52mph top speed and I was able to cruise at 40 at half throttle. That is the most horrendous noise having loose metal banging around the cvt case. So originally, the next move was a new pipe. Now I guess it's going to be a new variator and clutch rebuild. I'd like to keep the 15x12 size rollers but upgrade the variator to something more performance oriented, if possible.

That got pretty chewed up! Bet you were thinking the worst, huh? But ya gotta love the durability of these little Yamaha motors. Damn things just keep going and going.

The only things I replaced in 13,000 miles was an air filter and a spark plug. Aside from oil, tires and brakes, obviously. It was about due for some parts failure. These things are pretty much bulletproof for being what they are.

Yeah, they're tough as nails and you'll easily get 60 or 70 thousand miles out of that motor. Easily.

I mean the worst thing that can brake is the crankshaft. Even if that happens, it's not expensive to get a new one, just a little bit complicated to install the first time.

I see it but can't believe it. 52mph on a stock CVT, carb, CDI and pipe? I know 3 guys here that drive a Jog and none of them reached that kind of top speed, not with stock setup nor with BBK. Only one guy reached 90km/h (56mph) but his Jog has no stock parts on it anymore. You can see my stuff in the sig and the fastest speed I can reach is 48-50mph.
Looking at your variator you don't reach the outer edge yet and get up to 52, man I am so jealous! Whatever you do treat her very nice because that kind of good running Jog is rare.

I love scooter road trips! Did one myself last summer. 1000kms from Amsterdam to Dijon France I can't believe how you managed to keep your jog bone stock for 4 years hehe.

In 1994 when my 93' jog was new. I probably Went through 2 tail lights just cause the front wouldn't stay down. I broke one for sure and I let someone else ride it for the first time. He broke the other. Speedo pegged. I used to take the expressway to work. It was a 50mph road. Bone stock. Of coarse I was 70 to 100 lbs. lighter back then. And there wasn't smartphones with gps.

When I first got it, bone stock, it was doing 44 consistently. Had to be careful with the throttle because the front wheel loved losing traction. That was the only reason I kept it stock for so long. It was so much fun to drive. A friend rode it once and immediately went over backwards because he was used to his 4 stroke metropolitan. After I get a new variator, I'm looking for a pipe for it. Something quiet-ish. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm definitely open.

I'm going to have to clock my jog with stock vari. I swear it does 50-55, I'm going to find out. My other jog is 60+ verified. Both are the old style 92 and I love them! I have been wanting to go scamping so fucking bad! I planned on throwing on my hiking pack and hitting the road. Good pics, that scoot is loaded down bro! Your beard ads 10hp !!

One other thing I would.like to mention. I didn't tighten the nut that holds the vari on to spec and same thing happened. Well, mine tore all the edges of each fin off. I have been running it that way for a few hundred miles now and no issues. I ran a hoca vari and was pleased with it and cost was around $40. I have a mhr on my 90cc jog and I want to switch back to hoca vari and stock pulley.

It's the best way to camp. I took 27 days and just explored. It was one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life. I would love to get this scoot over 60mph. 50 is scary on the 10" wheels. I rode a Honda Elite ch150d on i10 in Texas over 70mph for 30 miles once. It was less than satisfying. 10 inch wheels and high speed are not good bedfellows. It's terrifying on a bike that weighs twice as much. But it would be nice to be able to do it if necessary. And, lol, the beard kept me very warm on those cold Florida winter mornings.

Sounds like a great trip man! I am in Texas and would like to head down towards big bend and do a long trip of just exploration. I've been on foot but not on my scoot. I told the wife next weekend I'm packing my shit up and going scamping! So don't make any plans for me.. In my opinion 60 isn't that fast on 10 inch wheels, hell I bet I have been 50 on a skate board I would prefer 0-70 real fast..
