I was in the neighborhood of one of the more reputable scooter shops in the area and I figure I'd go ahead and purchase a 47mm bbk. I am currently running a pod air filter and jetted at 85. Should I go a little more than that, say 90? Is an A9 "racing" cam worth it? I am not a speed demon, I just like to tinker with stuff. I'm in an urban environment that doesn't give me the chance to go WOT. There is a stop sign or stop light at every corner. I'm aware that making my scoot 72cc is technically illegal but a middle age guy on a scooter is hardly ticket bait. I'm friendly with my local law enforcement and I've asked several of them about the 50cc limit. They agree that as long as someone is being safe it's a non issue. I would be more careful in the suburbs.

A9 cam is worth it if you get a decent price IMO. On Aliexpress I'm seeing them for as little as $10 shipped which is definitely worth it. As for the jetting, you'll have to tune it to find the right one. www.49ccscoot.com/faq/carbtune.html

No! No! No! We are all responsible adults here on this site and NEVER would endorse modifying a scooter over 49cc and making it illegal! LOL April Fools! Oh, am I early?? hehe. You're certainly in the right place if you're looking to learn to mod your scoot for speed! Shoot- I bet most here would agree that pepping a scoot up with a BBK and mods actually makes it a bit SAFER in traffic. Along with the mods come learning to tune your little scoot into a snarling beast and we were taught that recommending jet sizes over the internet isn't really a solid solution to getting your scoot in tune. There's so many different variables such as Weather, temp, humidity, elevation, different air flows of filter/carb combinations etc. that it's best to get yourself a few different jets to tune with and find which jet works best for you. Erring a bit on the rich side (larger jet) is safer for your engine as the additional fuel will keep it cooler, but don't run so rich as to hurt performance. Tons of info here to learn to make these fun little scoots scream!

After putting my big bore kit on I feel a lot safer riding in traffic due to the increase in torque. I would definitely recommend getting one.

I've ordered my cam and some 4.5g rollers and they are coming on the slowest boat from China ever. It will give me some time to study the install I guess.
I know I should always look before I click buy but at I couldn't resist the price.

I take back what I said about the slow boat. I ordered it on the 31st, it came today! All the way from china. Scrappy dog doesn't even ship that fast!
As a side note: for all those who think 1p39qmb means it's a secret 63 I have proof to the contrary. I have a 39mm piston & 69mm valves. I have also learned that I was running way too rich.
So today is my day off and I'm installing a 49mm bbk, an a9 camshaft and 4.5 g rollers. My goal is to feel a little safer in traffic.

I got the kit on today. In hindsight I should have removed the engine because it's kind of a nucklebuster on the bike. Everything went on ok as far as I can tell. I started it up and took off like a rocketship. There are too many stops to really go WOT but I will check top speed when I get it broken in. One thing I noticed is that the bike is louder. it could be I screwed up putting on the gasket but I dunno. I am not a fan of loud pipes. So far I am pleased with my choice. I ordered 4.5gram weights but I am thinking I don't need them. I take off just fine with 6g sliders
thanks 90gtvert for your youtube channel. without it I wouldn't have had the guts to undertake such an adventure

Most likely you have a leak at the header/head connection of the exhaust.May need a new gasket or sometimes you get lucky and the old one isn't bad. You can try applying a thin layer of copper RTV if you can't get it to seal with just the gasket.

All is not perfect. I seem to be leaking oil
on the upside I replaced the 6g sliders that I was futzing with and replaced them with 4.5 g rollers. I'd pop a wheelie on take off if I wasn't such a lardass
