Any idea where I can find a selection of springs, or can I just cut the one that I have down to size a little at a time?

You could just cut the existing one down a bit at a time. Hardware stores often carry selections of springs. A motorcycle shop may be able to help as well.

After taking a look at the spring from the stock carb, compared to the larger diameter spring of the PHVB carb, I'm wondering if I can make this work: PHVB spring, carb top, resting on the outside of the area, with clearance for the cable hole:  Mikuni spring, carb top, resting on the INSIDE of the area, with clearance for the cable hole:  PHVB spring, slide top, resting on the outside of the area with clearance for the cable hole:  Mikuni spring, slide top, resting on the INSIDE of the area with clearance for the cable hole:  With the Mikuni spring in place, the slide goes up the chute about 95% compared to the PHVB spring, it only goes up about 80% |
