Piaggio Sfera rst 50

Hello.. Im such a lucky guy.. i was lucky enough to acquire the only piaggio sfera that has come across on the interweb in about 3 years that i was looking for it.. And the seller was a 65 year old heavy metal/biker guy and he advertised it for 500€.. when i first called him he said "the price is 500€" no hello or yes please .. and my response was "ok. i want your scoot" .. fortunetly he lives some 20miles away from me so that was a no brainer.. in about an hour i was allready sitting on my dream scoot.. i must say that the owner of this scoot wanted to restore it to the original state some 5 years ago for his granddaughter . he rebuild the engine with everything new and OEM Piaggio. he even had receipts for most things cyl,variator,crankshaft.. Butt the body panels are in a very bad state.. every body panel is somehow scratched or broken.. most of the mounts on the  panels are shot..
So i love how this scoot is handling and how quick it is for a stock 50cc.. i must say that my keeway had a 50cc top performance trophy cyl and some other mod.. and the sfera would be quicker to 70kmh..

i drove it for 2 days.. and because it was running so nice i wanted to gett those panels fixed and painted as soon as possible.. so now i am at a stage where i had striped the scoot repaired all the cracks and made mounts with industrial epoxy and 100% pure cotton (used for helicopter rotors)..

































so this is where im at now..tommorow im taking the panels to my father in law for a nice repaint.. i have to decide quickly in which color i want my dream scoot..

oh and i made a new logo that my friend will make it out of vinyl..




the old ones are realy scratched and pealed.. this is the original logo sfera rst uses.. this is from a 125cc

Also i need a really good set of tires.. can anyone recommend a good grippy 10inch tyre..

That's a really nice looking scoot. Never saw one before but I like it a lot.

I like the Pirelli SL26's myself. Nice and grippy and not overly expensive.

I think they look like the old Zips, but they also look like the Skipper and Quartz.

Yes its a piaggio Hy-Per first gen 2t 50cc.. I know ive said that ill leave it stock.. At least that was my intention.. But i had a dream today that this thing would be a whellie machine if i was to putt a 70cc kit on..

As i like the stock functionality im thinking of this setup:
*polini sport 70cc
*exhaust sito plus (stock look)
*polini speedcontrol variator
*17.5 phva carb (replacing 12mm weber)

Also spaz12 you just sealed the deal about those tyres.. Ive read good rewievs for those pirellis so im going to go for them.. What are they like on wet roads?


This year me and my 3 friends are scooting to the croatian sea.. So its gonna be a blast..

Lucass2t i also liked that 90's style italian scoots.. It uses the same single front fork as the zip sp 1 gen. And the manouverability is awsome.. Compared to the chinese mina clone..

I must say that this is the scoot i wanted for so long was because when i was 10 years old my granddad had one and he lett me drive it.. He did block the throttle cable for me so i never did go faster than 15mph.. Butt when he passed away the scoot was sold to a 18year old kid and he wrecked it another day.. Now 16years later i have my own Piaggio sfera.. And im so stoked.. Today the scoot is mine for the seventh day.. And i ve been working on it every day from 22pm till 03:00am.. Because i have a 8month old girl im up in 06:00 hours and then spending time with my big and my small girl till 14:00 then i go to work for 8 hours and back in the garage till 3am.. Ive been doing this the whole week so im pretty tired.. Enough of my bull...

Well off to take the first coat will upload picts in the evening.. :-D

It doesn't really rain a lot where I live so I don't have much wet weather experience with them, but the little I do have I'd say they did just fine. I'd remember more if they scared me, and that just never happened.
My friend uses them as well and rides his on a daily basis, so I can tell you that the rear will only last about 9 months or so @ 40 miles a day but I think that's acceptable for a tire that costs about 60 dollars.

so i went to my fathers in law to do the final preps before painting.. a little more sanding and a little more filler.. and thing is ready for paint day.. which will be tommorow.



meanwhile when we wore waiting for the filler to dry out and drinking beer.. He said to me "you know what. i used to had something simmilar than you have now" and then he said "i have the same engin somewhere in my pile of junk.. butt something is different" i was all like lets go for a scavenge hunt.. and wouldnt you know it








a complete Piaggio Quartz LC engine.. Same piaggio Hy-Per as mine with everything in it and making it LC its just a win win..
I was so stoked that we found it he looked at me and said "Take it and make shure you make a beast out of it"..
Hurray i wont be bored thrue the winter time

Thanks.. I will try my best.. Will a dishwasher do a good job of cleaning the engine casings?.. Because i will have to replace the crankshaft and the bearings so might as well clean and repaint the cases..

Someone on here uses a dishwasher to clean theirs. I'd be afraid to use the dishwasher for anything else after that lol

Just use plain ol' petrol and a paint brush or dish brush. Cleans like hell!

That is why i asked.. How is the dishwasher after cleaning oil and grease.. I would rather not do it because these cases are quite greasy..

I will do the petrol or paint thiner method..

What about painting the cases.. Anyone knows of a good robust paint?
