I know speed is important for a lot of 49cc riders. But in most states the speed limit is 30 mph but the police have not been enforcing very hard. But with so many newbe's out there this year some are gone to get hurt bad. And watch out then, the police will start cracking down on all of us.
Slow down and wear your helmets. It may save you a headache in more than one way.
Just a thought from Loosegrit.

I agree. I'm sure that sounds odd from someone constantly looking to go faster. Don't worry, I won't be a hypocrite and tell you to ride slow all the time if I'm gonna go out and speed, but be as safe as you can for what you're doing at least. I rode for a few years pinned at all times. 50-60MPH cruising, passing traffic on the shoulder, etc... I still do that sometimes (but not all the time anymore), so I'm no angel, but I will definitely tell you it's safer to cruise at "normal" scooter speeds. Traffic still notices you, but they pay less attention to you. You don't get the folks pacing you to see your speed and staring at you (fixating on something generally makes them drive toward it ). Cars will pass you faster, so you spend less time in blind spots and less time with no place to go should something happen. You stay under the radar of the cops. You'll get less road rash going slower. You'll save fuel. It's a win/win. You sure won't find me creeping along all the time, but you won't find me WOT on the shoulder just asking for trouble everywhere I go either. If I wanna go out and speed around, it's easier to go out late at night and/or on back roads to avoid traffic. The time of day or road you're on won't save you from a ticket or crashing, but reducing the amount of traffic you're in doing this stuff will keep you safer. I'm a big fan of helmets. I can assure you my face and head would be in much worse shape after my last crash had I not been wearing a helmet. I'm glad chunks are missing from a helmet and not my face. Like loosegrit said, the more injuries, deaths, complaints, and citations... the more police and lawmakers are forced to pay attention to and regulate what we do.

loosegrit, I think we live in the same Sin City. Your big ass is certainly an attention getter I totally agree though. With the weather getting warmer and gas going up I think a lot of people on scoots will be targeted for tickets. If you don't have an M endorsement and ride without a helmet keep it at 30mph. Save yourself the hassle and money. The tickets alone get real expensive real Quick not to mention Impound fees and the walk home. The first months of summer Cops look for scoot riders. Don't give them a reason to pull you over. Oh, and don't ride during rush hour doing only 30 on major streets. Backing up or "Obstructing the flow" of traffic is a ticket also. Even if obeying moped the laws. Take the side streets instead.

It is for this reason that I intend to keep mine stock (looking). I had entertained the idea of an aftermarket exhaust but the gain would probably be minimal and would probably attract the wrong kind of attention.

Edit- I just got a snow/hail flurry in my backyard. Nothing to stick but not something I would want to ride in. After the Flurry the sun came out and looked like a great time to ride.
