Situation: Headlights dim dramatically almost to off when hitting brakes.
Condition: Battery installed, headlights dim when hitting brakes.
Alternate condition: Battery not installed, headlights are dim UNTIL I hit my brakes, then bright.
Sounds like a ground issue right? Grounding the negative with or without the battery does not change the issue results. Think harder......... let me know what you come up with.

If it all revolves around the brake switch, my first thought is to check those and the controls around them.

I have the same issue. last night during our ride I noticed it has gotten worse. This past weekend I grounded the rear part of the wire harness and added a 3rd wire in the stator (4 wire 8 coil) plug and grounded it right at the stator under the fan cover like alot of bikes are. I'm wondering if that made my issue worse because the ground is stronger therefore making the short in whatever is shorting worse. We both have a common denominator here. My bike sat in the Rain for 8 months before I rescued her. I had to replace the blinker relay when the bike only had 800 miles. Also on my dash cluster the blue back lit clock used to reset randomly and the lcd writing is dull. It used to be clear one day and unreadable the next. It's now dull all the time and to be honest I'm not sure when it started. I will replace the brake switches when I get off and see if that fixes the issue and let you guys know. If you all can think of anything I would greatly appreciate the info. Thanks Also it's not noticeable during the day but really noticeable at night. And on long steady no stop rides when it goes dim it will not get brighter until the rpms change. Weird right. Can you point me in the direction of a wire diagram with the output voltages for the type of stator I have. Thank you in advance!

Removed brake light and issue went away. I think an 1157 is too much for that tail light. It came with a 21/5 and the 1157 is a 27/8

If you put a new bulb in and it still happens, you may have a short in that assembly. Maybe letting an AC tail light (if that's what this one has) and DC brake light power interfere with each other?

I have thought about that before because when I pull the brake lever when the bike isn't running and the key in the on position the tail lights up but when the scooter is running it runs off the stator.

If it's just the running/tail light that lights and you're sure it's not the brake light, that sounds like a short to me.
