hi guys,
got a problem with my mates cpi oliver 50
the battery wont hold a charge (new battery)
there are 3 wires coming out of the stator, black, white and green/red
if i check the voltage across the white and green/red wires at tickover i get about 2 volts ac and a max of 7 if i rev it up.
the white and green/red wires go into the rectifier/regulator and i got a red and black coming out
if i put a meter across the red and black wires (i'm assuming i get dc) i get absolutly nowt.
anybody any ideas is it the stator or the rectifier/regulator thats duff or both
cheers

sounds like the stator it should put out 18 to 20v ac @ 2000rpm..

Hi dr1445
thanks for that
I thought it should be around about that, its just that they're not prone to going wrong
Any ideas where i could get one in uk
cheers

The cooling fan - which is open to air, water and harmful particles - is connected directly via screws to the flywheel. The flywheel sits around the stator. These stators are manufactured in cost-effective ways (cheap). They are definitely prone to going wrong. That being said; Are the lights on the scooter dimmer than normal? Is battery fuse still intact? Have you tried another known working battery? You mentioned a multimeter test on the stator. Did you check the voltage on the battery? I've let a battery sit until completely dead (wouldn't even charge on a trickle charger/maintainer after that) and then later rode it for a week or so with it hooked up. Ended up charging and functioning fully, eventually. If you are most definitely sure that it is the stator; I suggest giving this thread (from the Tech section) a thorough read. That stator isn't trash, even if it doesn't function correctly! 49ccscoot.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=igneleclight&action=display&thread=1196

me back again
got a new stator and a new rectifier/regulator
still not working
i think i got my wires crossed in my first post
there are 3 wires coming out of the stator, black, white and green/red going to the regulator/rectifier
the black and green/red give me about 12v a/c at tickover rising to about 30v a/c when i rev it up
the red coming out of the reg/rect goes to the battery, i assume to charge the battery but i'm only getting a reading of about 12.01v dc at tickover and no difference when i rev it up
i got about 12.2v dc coming out of the battery when the scooter is not running
I'm out 160 squid and running out of hair to pull out
all suggestions welcome, before i go bald

The regulator MUST be grounded.
If you have 30VAC going in and only 12.1 coming out the "new" regulator is no good.
