Hey guys I have a Briggs and Stratton lawn mower and it was running fine but leaking fuel took the tank off fixed the issue but now it won't run. I prime it then start but it dies right away. If I keep pumping the primer it runs off that gas any help ?

I cleaned the carb very thoroughly seems to wanna run fine. It ran perfect before I got my hands on it by the end of the day it only runs when I prime it or if I keep pushing the prime button. It dies if I stop pushing fuel in I didn't do anything only line I took off is throttle control because it has self drive

Does the carb have a diaphragm? It is usually between the carb and tank. If so, it could be torn

Where can I find a new diaphragm? I think mine is pretty rough

Thinking about it a bit more ...If you didn't remove the carb from the tank...you might be ok...It has been a long time since I wrenched on these...but its more likely that intake isn't connected quite right or is leaking...sometimes they are hard to get back together.

When you had the tank and carb split, did you loose the spring that is part of the gasket in pic below? Here is a couple links outdoorpowerinfo.com/repairs/briggs_pulsa-prime_carb.aspoutdoorpowerinfo.com/repairs/briggs_vacu-jet_vert_auto_all-temp.aspIf you try to run it without the air filter, install the long screw that holds the air filter assembly on or it will never run right. Adjust the mixture screw with the air filter installed. These carbs need the restriction of the air filter to run correctly. Funny, I just worked on one of these engines today. The gas in the tank was almost shellac. The engine I had was older and did not have the primer bulb. Good luck

Check to be sure that the rubber O-ring and the plastic retainer clip are both still on the in take tube. Also, check the diaphragm an gasket to see if they went back on in the right order.

My spring is under my diaphragm or am I wrong? The spring should be on the gas tank side of the gasket.

All of the PLASTIC Briggs carbs I have seen, have the spring between the carb body and the diaphragm. Since the went to that throttle free crap, they have changed a lot of stuff.
I recently had an issue with a Briggs engine that would start, run for a we one and die. Turns out someone had cleaned the carb, and got the gasket and diaphragm out of order. Switched it around and it now runs like a new one.
If the pullcap top is loose much at all, inspect the plastic intake tube for cuts. I stripped one of the mounting screw holes and the cap vibrated a cut almost half way through the intake.
