I read somewhere that the Contra spring works alot more smoothly if you put ball bearings under the spring. Has anyone tried this?

I bet i could make a setup like that ?...That would help allot with shifting up and down, and slow spring wear dramatically. Thanks for the link Brent

Well I tried it and it worked great. I don't know how much different these things are from scooter to scooter but mine held the ball bearings in place fine. I did a ten mile test ride and it seems to be working good. Here are some pics-- - -

Cool silver, i was just getting ready to try mine but cant find my bb,s. Now that i see it worked good for you i definitely want to try it. Bet it stiffens the spring a bit too. 8-)good deal

Oh really... I may have to try this. What size bearings did you use? I have a few left over from the tripletree. I could just... not include them with 2strokd's order ;D

Not me bearings lol ! Mine are getting kinda whacked from all the wheelies and such. Not to mention Skeedr took a hard hit sometime before i got it. I tried 6mm bb,s cause i have a ton and they are too big for mine . Some 3 or 4mm would work good...

It looks like the spring could move now because it's not in the groove anymore. Not that it's really gonna go anywhere I guess. Oh well, it works anyway. I might give it a shot sometime.

I tried it and it worked for me also. The 6mm bb,s are a bit big but i figured a center stand test was in order anyway, what the hell right? Honestly i didnt think they would stay in but they did I did some center stand reving and they held firm. After about 15 miles of riding i think im sold on this idea. This helped with shifting a bit (got to), and it did stiffen an older kinda worn 1,500 spring up back to spec. It should slow spring wear dramatically too. This was working so well for me we just had to try it on uncles Cobra. We put the bb,s in his otherwise stock cvt and it woke up and started shifting up and down better. We also added a set of my Minarelli red clutch springs to his clutch and that helped get it up in the rrr,s a bit more for better take off. He is happy, i am happy, cant beat a free mod. Thanks for noting and sharing silverspar

I'm sold. I'm going to go try to find some bb's at the hardware store. After using 6mm bb's, would you still recommend going to 3 or 4mm? Also, you guys arent using any grease or anything right? Just dry bb's?

Damn. I had a whole 2L bottle full of BBs left over from when I had a Red Ryder lol and I gave it a way last year. I could have supplied us all with multiple sets of 4.5mm "roller bearings". The 6mm look like a nice snug fit in the photo though.

My mistake, i thought these were 6mm but they are standard 4.5mm bb,s for the gun lol. They were in a 6mm airsoft pellet container that threw me off. NO GREASE! You know better than that reign lol...

I'll go find some 4mm bb's and throw them in tomorrow or something. Just need to upjet to 87.5 to get rid of the bog, and do this and my Triton should be set for spring.
