HI, I'm new to this site, terrible with computers , can't type, new to scooters, and have another project. A1993 yamaha jog that I purchased for 2 knobby tires and a rusty gas tank. I may have overpaid. First step was the teardown---done second step was ordering Parts; Top end, battery, carb kit, and expansion chamber ----done Step three is to figure out what I'm doing. This could take a little longer. My first question is a key. The previous owner said it would run without one And plug did indeed spark when motor kicked over. Could I just plug in the 14 dollar Scrappy Dog Universal unit. Could I Rig something up With switches. The Plug has 4 slots with a single off to the side.See Pic (hopefully it downloaded properly). I really would like to use the electric start-such a necessity with a 49cc motor. Next big Question is piston wrist pin re-instilation. Is there an easy way to do this? Anyway thanks and I'll keep you updated.

what do you mean an easy way to do the piston wrist pin install
i like to install 1 circlip start the wrist pin in the piston get it so it just starting to stick into the center of the piston line the wrist pin up on the small end bearing and slide it thru nice and easy and install the other circlip
i like the ones that come with the polini kits as they are pretty easy to install
its not hard with the hm engine and i see you have it out of the scoot so it should be even easier
as for getting bypassing the key if you have spark and your horn and turn signals work the key switch should be bypassed and the e start should work

It probably won't just plug in and work, but I would think you could wire the switch in to make it work. The ignition system needs a ground applied to prevent the spark, and it seems nothing is doing that now. I'd guess that's what the black/white wire is for.

I got an ignition from scrappy for my Cobra. It wasnt exactly the same as far as wiring but the bolt pattern was. I think i had to switch or splice one wire? Works great!!!

Well the new top end is installed . Went pretty smooth. Also just used jumper wires on ignition and that worked out as well. I do, however, have a number of new problems I would appreciate imput on..... 1. Motor will fire and idle for 4-5 seconds the die with or without throttle. While investigating I found the throttle slide rotating in the body and ending up resting atop the idle screw. i looked for a protusion inside the shaft to keep the slide alligned and instead found a small depression on the choke side right where I thaught a tab should have been. Am I missing something? 2How do I check the oil pump? Running pre mix now. When motor was running I pulled oil line off at carb and did not notice a flow. But with a motor this small how much oil is pushed around? Would I see it? 3 petcock has 3 lines. 1 in front, 2 in back. What goes where? 4 How do I check elec choke operation. Stuck voltmeter into elec connection and , with key on, got no reading. Ideas? 5 Thanks
