Hello All,
Recieved my new scoot this past Weds. and wanted to give you a heads up on what my first impressions are. I owned a TaoToa ATM 50 and that one finally gave up the ghost.
I had HP Mopeds in Alexandria do the PDI (Hong is also a TaoTao dealer) and have installed a BBK right off the bat (80) and now I am just laying back and taking it slow to break in. Everything is still stock at this writing.
I am very much liking the feel of this scoot. The 12" tires and heavier body makes a huge difference over my old ATM. It is very responsive even with the stock carb. I have a Keihin to put into soon. It handles very nice and I don't feel every pebble in the road!
One issue I have with TaoTao however is the floormat. They never seem to line up with the holes to clip in and when you do finally get one to clip in the one before or after pops out... Also their owner manual absolutely suck...no information regarding light sizes or wiring schematics. Very generic info.
The under seat storage is lacking. It is the same size as the ATM model but there is an extra 6" in front of it they could have used. May look into making something later down the road. Had to replace a headlight earlier today and that was a little annoying trying to get the hold down spring back in. The light socket itself feels a little sticky as it might be as little oxidized inside and now having an intermittent issue with same headlight. Might have to replace or get some contact cleaner.
Now there is plenty of room inside the frame to make some cool additions like lighting and pleanty of body space to do same. I will be adding led lighting for brakes and turn signals outside the bike and I will be replacing factory bulbs with led's for said signals and brakes. I am also planning on making a rectifier so I may have led headlights.
Next weekend I will be replacing fuel and vacuum lines and removing PAIR system, installing lights and carb. Future upgrades will be variator and clutch. Not looking to make it real fast but I do like to cruise around so please give me suggestions on what weight rollers I should use. I do appreciate any wisdom I can gain! Also looking into aftermarket exhaust.
Overall fit is pretty good. Their is some tiny paint chipping on a few edges, but the quality of the bike seems pretty good but, of course, only time will tell.
Now finally!! The looks!! I have only had this scoot a few days and it does turn some heads. Have gotten compliments on the looks in the parking lot as well. And personally, I really like the way she looks and I can't think of any way to improve it.
I was thinking before I decided to pick up the EVO 50, I was seriously looking at another ATM 50. I am so happy that I didn't go that route as the difference between them is night and day. The EVO 50 feels more like a full size motorcycle than a scoot and it is truly a joy to ride... (so far)...
Thank you all for letting me ramble and happy motoring!!
