I read on another forum it was banned because the spectators like to hear 'shifting',the drone of a race engine constantly on the perfect powerband doesnt sound right to them,,so here we are,,spectators make the most important call as they pay to see it..Even if a CVT kicks ass in sooo many forms of racing,it just dont sound right!!!!!!

I dont think the "CVT" they used is anything like the ones on our scooters. Same principle...but MUCH better execution

I must admit to loving the sound of an engine going through it's gears.

I agree with you on Old vs new and this stuff makes me want to design a steel belt wet CVT a very small one lol.

There are CVT's in production cars but I have not heard about them in years. They were metal belt transmissions if I remember right. Most designs have not made it into production. They ban all kinds of things in racing. Remember the turbo Indy 500 cars? Remember the Audi Quatro? I have got to admit I like the sound of the normally aspirated race cars, piston engine planes, and the old 70's(?) F1 cars. The pistons beat my heart. BTW, Scoot CVT's SUCK!

BTW, Scoot CVT's SUCK! the ford flex used some kind of cvt. I guess it sucked when one little part broke and the whole trans needed to be replaced because they don't sell parts for it.

My dodge caliper uses CVT it sort of sounds like my scoot. It is steel belt I feel like a scoot with a gear reduction to the vari instead of being connected to the crank could successfully use a wet CVT with a steel belt. This exact one

I don't think they banned the CVT from F1 because of the noise, but I do think they have now banned overtaking!

My new Subaru Imprezza has a cvt. It's awesome. A lot of production cars have them now. I think Nissan, Mitsubishi, and some of the domestics have them in cars. They're reliable now and more efficient than a geared tranny.
