I worked some over time and I'm gonna have a little play money in a few weeks. (If I sell oNE of my banjos I'll have even more....yes I play banjo) I see a bunch of honda elite 80's on my local CL. Does anyone have first hand experience with them? Many are in their 30's now, are they still a decent ride? I'd like to go bigger but there isn't a ton of room in my garage and I'm happy with the speed of my kitted chineese scoot.I just don't like the fact that it seems to be falling apart. I read some reviews and they were good but I'm unsure how old the reviews were. Are there any current honda elite owners (or aero owners, seems to be some of those coming up too) who want to fill me in on their experiences Thanks

I've ridden them and repaired them for customers.
They are built much better than Chinese scooters overall. Obviously, Honda engineering. The motors are Honda and more sophisticated than Chinese scooters in general. And last much longer if cared for.
That said...I never found the Japanese scooters to ride particularly well compared to Chinese scooters. Almost as if the Japanese scooters in their quest for quality over did the suspension and steering geometry. They just don't feel as stable. Could just be me.
Older Honda scooters (and older Yamaha scooters) with front brake drum brakes seem to lose their efficiency and need maintenance to provide good front braking. The disc brakes on Chinese scooters do a real good job unless you warp the disc.
The motors on the elite 80 are harder to work on imo. They are vertical motors and very tight under the seat and to the frame. Also the way they are engineered. I've done motor work on them. I charge a good bit more for engine work on them for those reasons.
But strictly from a quality perspective...if cared for they are good and solid.

Thanks. Just found out more overtime could be in my future so my budget may reach beyond "80's honda money"

budget may reach beyond "80's honda money" Depending on your speed expectations and use criteria, the Elite 110 may be a candidate. 2014 Scooter Cannonball ride report.

In my experience no matter how much money you have what you want is always just out of reach. Its a bit like horse power you just need that little bit more
