I may have the opportunity to aquire a TGB key west. I understand it's Taiwanese and 2 stroke. I don't hear much else. What kind of engine is it? Are parts hard to come by? I hear of genuine, kymco and SYM all the time but never of Taiwan Golden Bee. Anybody familiar? A Google search gets me lots of pictures but not much else

I like TGB scoots. They seem slightly above par.

the guy said the airbox has a crack and the electric start wont work, only kick start. I'm guessing bad soleniod or switch. Are solenoids bike specific or will a gy6 one work. It's all 12 volts.

If you search TGB on this forum you'll find a number of builds with Key Wests and R50X's. They have a Morini engine which is a variation on the Minerelli with a slightly smaller bore but longer stroke. All of the TGB scooters use the same engine it's just the gearing is different. I have a R50X and I can tell you it's a well built scooter. The R50X has 12" wheels and Disk brakes front and back. Once it's derestricted they can be fast scoots.

I think many of them have 4 valve heads. As fast as my 150cc Rave is, my buds TGB 150cc 4T will walk away from my scoot pretty good. His will do 65+

Im very happy with my TGBs. They seem to be way better made than any Chinese stuff. The Taiwanese manufacturer appear to actually give a damn about quality control.

The guy with the tgb replied! He said it leaks fuel at the moment. Bad petcock? Stuck float? Messed up float needle? As long as it's not a cracked case I can live with it.

Sounds like a new project on the horizon. Should be a good scooter if the money is right.

They have a Morini engine which is a variation on the Minerelli with a slightly smaller bore but longer stroke. There not related to the Minarelli at all* beyond being a 49cc 2T engine. The Morini has a bigger bore and shorter stroke than the Minarelli (41mm bore Morini vs 40mm Minarelli I believe) *The "Suzuki Morini" like I'm running in my Suzuki was designed in a joint effort by Suzuki and Minarelli before Yamaha brought out Minarelli, but it is in fact not a Morini engine at all in anything beyond name and that it shares the same stroke and cylinder stud pattern as an actual Morini engine. Most other 2T Suzuki scooters as well as the TGB etc run a variant of the Morini AC or AD engine.
