this is a schwinn collegiate. The belt broke on it and I ordered a replacement. I was able to put the new belt back on without removing anything but the cover. now the scooter runs like crap...it barely starts and runs and wont move the wheel unless its up off the ground. anyone have any suggestions. the scooter sounds completely different then it did before i put the new belt on. You have to take the front pulley off. The 6 weights are jammed up in there. There's no other way to fix it. Go to Harbor Freight or an auto parts store and get one of these: www.harborfreight.com/12-volt-1-2-half-inch-emergency-impact-wrench-92349.html Hook the impact to the scooter's battery, take off both pulleys and clean out any and all belt debris from the old belt in there. Then replace the weights properly and the little guides for the variator back plate and reassemble the belt drive making sure not to let the variator move away from the engine before you get the belt on there because the weights can jam up again. When a belt breaks the variator closes further than it's supposed to allowing the weights to become misaligned and twist in there and that jams the variator in one position. In this video you can see that at no time does the guy allow the variator halves to close up. He even puts a piece of cardboard in there to keep 'em open. The reason it worked for him is because the old belt did not break therefore the weights didn't jam up. In this vid you can see the impact removing the variator nut: In this vid you can see that the guy keeps the variator pushed against the engine so the weights don't move until the belt is installed: There's no real substitute for the impact. It's a $30 investment you'll use over and over. I carry mine all the time for flat tires in my work van. That's it's intended use after all. The only thing is it comes with cheap sockets so buy a good 17mm impact socket to go with it. There is more info and pics here: www.scooterforumonline.com/index.php/topic,2815.0.html

Also, when a belt breaks you should really check the whole CVT. You can end up with strands of belt tangled up in the pulley or pieces of a belt in the clutch. Sometimes the little guides for the variator's ramp plate will be gone. Rollers could be flat spotted or worse. Really gotta be thorough every time a belt breaks. I know it sucks, but it's important. BTW ! Poor scoot was punished with shrink wrap and garland.
