I am working in a Kawasaki KRF750 Teryx It will start but has a tremendous knocking sound coming from the bottom end The too end has been fresh rebuilt within the last year as an attempt to squelch that racket. No good Still knocks terrible
I pulled the rear cylinder And noticed quite a bit if side to side play in the con rods Also the intermediary timing shaft has a lot of side to side slap as well.
My question is, Has anyone here ever dealt with these engines? It's a real nice buggy and the guy got it for 300$ as is , so If a rebuild is going to cost 300-400$ he is still coming out ahead
I wish I could take and post picks if the type of CVT this thing uses!!! It's fucking backwards! The movable half is on the outside of the crankshaft away from the motor And yes, The CVT has been removed and the engine started to try to isolate that sound. Still does it. Any help or (please God!) a service manual will be greatly appreciated

You, my friend , are a Good send. Thank you. I haven't worked on anything like this before and found the intermediary deal to be quite odd to say the least.

Well, I just said to hell with it and pulled the motor out to be able to get at it better I found the source of the knock, the front cylinder Con rod bearing is shot. Tons of lateral movement. Will be posting pics if the rebuild and the fuel injection system and CVT of this beast just as a comparison to our smaller stuff The CVT is Imho sweet Almost backwards from ours with the moveable face being on the OUTSIDE of the crank.

Well, this job has been put on hold for a while. Turns out the P.O. had spun a rod bearing. Then insisted on putting some miles on it after the fact.A crank is going to be crazy expensive 400+$

Have been. Half of yesterday afternoon band this morning.Seems that spinning a bearing is commonplace with these engines. The crank pin is a good 1.5 mm down on the one side.

This damn thing is fighting me every way it can. I don't own a puller big enough to pull the fixed half if the vari off of the crank. The owner attempted to build a puller, and after putting a lot of prseeure on the pull bolt the edge of the plate busted a small piece out It broke way above where the belt stops, but I wouldn't try to use personally.
The rear pulley, Has no clutch that we are used to seeing but it is a torque driver. I just need to pull it off too. I haven't been able to work on this thing steadily so it's going slow.
I managed to source a rebuild kit for 839 bucks, actually cheaper than most. The oil pump impeller gear is chewed up so it needs replaced at 115 bucks Plus the damn chains. All said this " cheap " SxS will have a tad over a grand just in pieces in the engine.
I have a bunch of pics on a camera that U have left there so when I get done I will post a link to them.
Four timing chains, well three one is solely for the oil pump. One runs the intermediary shaft , then one for each cam.
It's a real heavy duty looking setup inside, and I absolutely dread Splitting the case simply because the transmission will be split when I do.....grrrr
