A week and a half ago my only muffler clamp broke. I brazed it back together nicely but then a few days later the bolt musta vibrated loose and when I got home everything was gone (clamp and rubber damper). So, I went and ordered a new set of clamps. After a week, they arrived....too small..... Bah! I got tired of waiting and decided to make a few clamps even if they are temporary while I find some that fit. Went to Home Depot and found this..... 1-3/8 in. x 36 in. Zinc Steel Punched Flat Bar with 1/16 in. ThickThe perfect length for my 113mm diameter muffler was 16.5 inches. I cut it so that there was a hole 1/4 inch from each end to allow the bolt to pass through. Those dimensions worked out perfect. After smoothing off any rough edges I bent the last 1 inch, 90 degrees on both ends same direction and then wrapped it around the muffler. The OEM clamps have a rubber isolater that stinks when the muffler is hot. My solution is gasket paper. They sell rolls of high temp gasket paper at the auto parts store. I haven't done it yet with this clamp but I may go get a sheet and cut strips that will fit inside this clamp and use a high temp glue to hold them in place. Best of all....Cost per clamp is only $2.50 Not bad. Maybe it'll be permanent?

Cool. Looks nice, Kind of industrial looking
I believe the cushion would be a good idea to keep the vibrations from rubbing a hole in the muffler or the clamps them selves from shearing from the moment.

One thing that may help is to use a fender washer under the bolt on each side. I like to use the stainless variety that has a little too large O.D. I grind off one side to fit the strap bend.
My current muffler strap does not use a rubber gasket, it is metal-to-metal.
