I'm riding down the street and I realized my font brake is messed up. I get home and I noticed this: Something is missing. I just don't know what. Seriously, if one more thing goes wrong, I'm gonna lose it!

Seriously, if one more thing goes wrong, I'm gonna lose it! Looks like you already lost "it". Ba-dum ching! Sorry, I couldn't help myself. Thread locker on essential safety items, like brake bolts and the front axle nut, are a really good idea.

Do I have to replace the brake or just the part that's missing?

My parts bike has the resivior at the handle bars. My daily driver doesnt. Does that mean it isn't hydraulic?

Looks like you just need the bolt to me. Can't you swing that down and get the bracket and fork holes to line up?
Are you sure the master cylinder isn't just hidden under the plastics? It's hydraulic. Definitely not cable operated.

It's hydraulic. Definitely not cable operated. Exactly! When the bolt came out and he applied the brake, the entire unit pivoted on the remaining bolt from the rotational force which allowed most of the caliper to be not in contact with the rotor any longer which would make for really poor braking. It appears that a new bolt and the proper torque and some locktite on both bolts should be all that is needed. Unless, as that missing bolt was working its way out over time, the threads got damaged...that is a real possibility and I would inspect them very carefully. Geeze, now I will have to be checking my caliper bolts too. Bill PS It is almost as if we need to do a complete PDI on these things every 6 months or so.

I think you're right again, Brent. My parts bikes front brake is a little more elaborate

"PS It is almost as if we need to do a complete PDI on these things every 6 months or so." For me it seems like every 6 hours

All fixed. Thanks folks. Now then, what will go wrong next? I still hear that whirring sound. That is bound to lead to heartache
