Apparently you have to register "motorized bicycles" in the state of TN. What? Really? Even mopeds? Does anyone else think this is ridiculous?

Not really. I have to register and insure my scooters (classified the same as mopeds/motorized bicycles) in MD and I'm not even supposed to ride in the regular lane of travel. Plus, they give me an off-road vehicle sticker, because they were too cheap to come up with something for a scooter/moped, which got me pulled over by a confused DE officer. A lot of people here gave up on scooters because of the costs and the new helmet law that also went into effect at the same time. I paid a whopping $15 to register all 3 of the scoots I had then, and the reg doesn't expire. I already had insurance and wore a helmet voluntarily, so it really didn't change a lot for me. I found it sad that so many gave up on scooters and mopeds because of that. Pretty obvious they don't enjoy riding if $5, insurance (I pay ~$200/year for 3 scooters), and a helmet are too much to deal with. The meds they'd have to put me on for going crazy without my scooters would cost more than that monthly.

Look at it this way now being stolen being a stolen motorize vehicle they will have to look for it with a little more heart then before and having a tag needed will make it a little more easier. I live in East TN don't see any problem with it sorry if you do.

My scoots run me $7 each per year to register, minus the one time fee for what I paid for personalized plates on all of them. Insurance runs me just a little bit over $100. Add in the motorcycle, all 4 bikes come to about $170 a year. That comes out to $42.50 a bike for insurance. Add in registration, I'm looking at roughly $50 a year to run each one.

As long as he fees are reasonable registration is a good thing for theft and insurance reasons.
