Well the smoke screen (probably light colored) is likely indicating a sealing problem... aka you're burning oil. Just gotta figure out where from. Piston rings, bad seal or gastket?

Sorry, I read too fast sometimes. That is a head scratcher then. :stumped: Seeing any evidence of oil on your spark plug? I assume you are checking the oil the same way each time (either filler cap screwed in or not). An oil return problem should be ruled out since these engines have a giant opening for the cam chain where oil returns from the head to the crankcase.

Yeah, if you are seeing blueish smoke, there is little doubt you'll see some or a lot of oil residue/fouling on the plug. Check the rings first, look for gasket leaks, and see if it looks like a bad valve seal. If it smokes constantly it's more likely to be a ring sealing issue. If you notice smoke mostly after start up or sitting for a while, sometimes after idling for long periods, it may be a valve seal.

If you get it apart that far, it makes more sense to go ahead and look at the rings. If you don't see any other issues, then maybe try the other head.
