My new donor scoot came with a broken CVT cover, right around the kick start hole, cracked and warped. The engine has a little over 3000 miles on it, the clutch bell has obviously been overheating and the belt I can pull around with little effort, doesn't even grip the pulleys. Turning the engine by hand indicates it has good compression, don't see any other damage besides the CVT cover.
I can do one of two things. Keep it and use it for parts, or rebuild it with a big bore kit and have a spare engine. Or even find another frame and build another scooter. I can use the head now if it's good because I have a snapped exhaust stud on the other engine, but I've been kicking around the idea of building a 100cc hotrod and since I have a free engine, might be the candidate for it.

A spare engine is always a good thing. The stater and other parts are probably good with only 3,000 miles on it.

Make sure the engine is plug and play for the moment you grenade your current engine. Until then just store it away in a box or under a sheet or something.

Got the head and cylinder pulled, from what I've been able to google, this wasn't supposed to be a very good scooter, but honestly, the case halves at least match up better than my other two engines, the crank appears good and solid, nothing in the head is burnt or out of whack, valves seat well, not a lot of carbon build up for 3K miles, good compression by the finger in the spark plug hole test. Granted I don't know if the engine ran when I got it, it was titled and registered until last year and it's supposed to run. I don't care about hitting highway speeds, but I'd love to be able to keep speed uphill, get up to speed faster. Just have bit more confidence in the throttle, my current 80cc/20mm carb set up is strong, and I haven't touched the tranny yet, but I don't think tweaking it is going to give me the kind of gain Iwant without some more power behind it. I think I'm just going go for it, 100cc bbk, big valve head, A9 cam and another 20mm carb with a bigger jet like around 100 and see what flies. Plus I can use the OEM head to fix the broken exhaust stud problem on the other engine. ![](https://s19.postimg.org/4g6quzm83/20161025_192900.jpg) ![](https://s19.postimg.org/vpi49hnb7/20161025_192908.jpg)

I say build, port and polish the head, new internals, and hold on to it until opportunity presents itself

This will be the engine for the new frame, rat bob has a bad tree so his frame getting scrapped and everything on it moved to the new one except the engine, that one will be the spare.

Well, I'm committed now, ordered the 100cc BBK, big valve head and 20mm carburetor. For an engine I've never heard run...

Too cold to ride and I can't start tearing down the Bob till I see if the new belt solves it's problem, so I decided to revisit my donor engine, got the clutch and variator removed. The rollers in the variator are extremely lightweight but I don't have a scale to weigh them. Everything's dirty but looks in good shape. No real signs of seals leaking at the crank or drive shaft, no play, everything is solid including the clutch, belt is definitely toast though. All in all, I think I should go ahead and build it, but stick with the 80cc route, maybe add the A9 cam but go with the stock head. ![](https://s19.postimg.org/elb0i2t37/20161119_122455_copy.jpg) ![](https://s19.postimg.org/sg9b0jnib/20161119_121227_copy.jpg)

So after a good cleaning, it's obvious the rollers are bad, all but one has multiple flat spots, one is down to the metal core. ![](https://s19.postimg.org/png3gin5v/20161119_145246_copy.jpg)

An hour with a toothbrush and degreaser does wonders... ![](https://s19.postimg.org/x1b3q7743/20161119_210502_1_copy.jpg)

Be sure and give us a review of those glixal parts, esp the variator. I've often considered their cylinder kits for the price. Never heard many reviews on them tho

Have an 80cc bbk with over 3K miles no problems, have about 500 on the 100cc bbk so far, only problem has been the head, valve issues and as humanshlield pointed out, too big of volume.
The variator was a whim, you'll note it looks exactly like a DLH or Koso, I wanted some 6 grammish rollers so I just bought it and we'll see.
