Hi all, so glad I found this forum. I started down the path of Motorcycling about three years ago, love it- however my daily rider Ducati is really not great for city rush hour traffic to and from work every day, (which is only 3 miles away from home) and with a 2 year old son I don't have a lot of time on the weekends to gallivant on my bike and go for long rides. A work friend of mine, (who got me interested in Motorcycles in the first place) also got a 2T Zuma, and let me have a go on it, and from the first trip around the block, I was hooked. At normal city traffic speed, I am not sure there is anything else more fun to ride and I think it would be perfect for me to commute with. My Wife is also interested in getting a scooter so it looks like I will have a couple more 2-wheeled vehicles in my garage soon.
I don't have a scooter yet, the market in Columbus is crazy and people want way too much for old pieces of junk. I looked at an 86 Aero 50 2T and had $500 in my pocket but the guy wouldn't take anything less than $650, but he did let me ride it around for about 15 minutes. I also found a 97 Jog that is a ways away but the seller has not responded yet. I am pretty set on a 2T, as another work friend got a PCC Juliet 150 (GY6) and I had a spin on that but it felt like a dog compared to that Zuma and even that Aero. I like retro-styled scooters but usually "retro" also means "markup". The Jog is ugly as homemade sin but that kinda adds to the appeal of it, lol.
I have been doing a lot of reading on here and some of the builds are amazing. I hope to learn more and have my own project scoot (or two!) soon.
Thanks, Brendan

Welcome to the forum. I too came to scoters after years of motorcycle's, and could not believe the fun you could have on a small capacity scooter.

We are a small group of folks in Dayton, OH and Cincinnati. Ask around the folks at Capital City Scooters, they are a great bunch.

Thanks everyone! So the Jog deal fell through, was sold in two days after listing. BUT! Someone posted up a Sundiro Akita and after a bit of Googling, decided to pull the trigger. It was owned by a 90 year old man who died recently, he rode it up until about July but it started getting hard to start. I checked it out, looks pretty good, has compression so it's probably something simple. Best part, $120 and it's mine! Once I bring it home I will take some pictures and start a project thread. From what I have read, some of these Sundiro scooters actually have a 90cc Minarelli case but smaller crank and jug to make a 50cc, but swapping in the 90cc crank wouldn't require any machining. I am excited to tear it apart and see what I find. And yeah, Capital city scooters is a great place, we will probably buy a nicer scooter there in the spring time maybe or when my Wife feels confident enough to have one of her own. Thanks again for the warm welcome, this is going to be a fun journey. Brendan
