So, Black friday is coming up. Has anyone had experience with off brand LCD's? They're so cheap! Im mostly worried about longevity. And if you know of a super awesome deal... Here is one. LG 40in $150 Best Buy. (Leave me one)

You have to be careful shopping for even name brand TVs on Black Friday. You may notice on many televisions that you don't find reviews, while most of the models available have plenty of reviews. A search for the model number may bring up nothing but Black Friday ads. That's because some TVs are made specifically for bargain shoppers on a limited run. They may have less features, less connections, cheaper components, and less testing; which all means there's a good reason the Samsung or LG that you're looking can be had 1/2 the price of their other models. I'm not sure how much better off you are with a Black Friday big brand vs an everyday model of a cheaper brand.
I'm not saying not to buy on Black Friday, but do your homework before you go busting doors down if you are looking for a quality TV.

i got an Element 19in from 2 years ago that has been good. didnt buy on black friday though. was $99 in 2014 and now for $99 you can get like a 24 inch one. im happy with it. its only 720p HD but it looks good and is on most of the time. the power supply is separate from the unit itself and is instead a big switchmode AC adapter. this removes some of the heat from the TV itself so that should make it more reliable. I guess i would consider it off-brand because ive only ever seen Element brand TVs sold at walmart so its not like Vizio or LG and Samsung but its been good to me

My son and I have used Samsung, LG, Vizio, and Sceptre, all with excellent results. None of them has failed. At this moment I am using a Sceptre as my computer monitor. I have another Sceptre on my bedroom media center, and a Vizio for my TV. The Vizio does not have much actual run time since I don't watch TV but it is seven years old and still works when powered up occasionally.

at work they use TV's for monitors that are on 24/7 all over the place. most are not big name brands and they all hold up. they just buy whatever is cheapest at the time that fits the size requirements. actually it seems the only ones I have seen fail in my three years working here were LG, and samsung

Got a great deal on a Changhong 50" TV on Newegg about 4 years ago. Only paid, I think it was, $379 for it back then. From what I understand, they go for about $299 now, and that's BEFORE black Friday !! www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889623018Have it hooked up in my basement and it is used for the HTPC for the kids. The color, brightness, contrast, etc settings needed a little tinkering with to set just right for use with a Computer attached to it, but since then it has been 100% solid and reliable. I utilize the HD Homerun Prime CableCard tuner on my home network for cable TV over wi-fi, and the Changhong is connected to an HTPC computer that I built via HDMI. The cable signal comes in wirelessly over a 300MBPS connection and looks stunningly beautiful. Especially the HD channels. Since the device that converts the wireless signal to a TV signal is nothing more then a computer, it is also loaded up with emulators like ZSNES, Stella, PJ64, MAME, etc. And also used to surf the internet using a Logitech K400 keyboard. Colors are perfect, no ghosting, great frame rates. Now who DOESN'T want to play the Atari 2600 version of Pacman on a big screen TV? No? Well COD looks great too!! Can't speak highly enough on the Changhong brand. From what I understand, they are not a well known brand here in the states, but in China are very very popular. Don't know if Newegg or Amazon or whoever is gonna offer it again this year, haven't looked at any ads yet.. then again, not into any electronics this year, I have too many already. But if it does happen to pop up again, at least in my opinion anyway, it should not be passed up. Keep on the lookout for it, and read other's opinions too. Their experience may be different then mine. Reading opinions from others and researching a product might be the difference between getting a great find at a great price during the holiday sales events, and getting hosed.

We've run several Dynex televisions for years with no issues.

TCL is a nice brand and is usually pretty cheap on Amazon and you can frequently find them for good discounts on woot.com. I bought a refurbished 55" LED with roku and wifi built in for about $350 on woot. I also have a 40" TCL non-smart tv from amazon for about $250. Black Friday is not a good day for electronics unless its something that doesn't have a black friday version.
I believe Amazon has a 50"+ Vizio coming up as part of its run up to black friday.
