Did anyone else get sucked into scooters due to the association with mod and skinhead culture? I watched Quadrephenia at a young age and that put a need for a vintage Vespa into my head. I guess I'm a bit of a middle aged teenager now, lol, but still enjoy putting in the boots and braces and blasting. youtu.be/xrOek4z32Vg

Naah, It was my wife's nephew fault. I worked on his scooter for a little bit then he got his license and car. I got tired looking at it in the bushes at my in-laws house wasting away. So I bought it and fixed it up.

Where I live there is a massive classic scooter scene. In the Summer you see them all going for ride outs. Skin heads and bomber jackets. Some even ride all year round. Always find it strange that quite a few of them never got round to doing their full license. Even though they are in the 40-50 age group

I've never owned a bomber jacket, lol. I always preferred mechanics jackets or denim.
I think urban poor working class culture is like that in a lot of places. Not a scene per say but most of the scooter riders here are folks that can't afford a car or don't have a license for one reason or another but got fed up with the bus.
A lot of guys that work the port have scooters because the security rules are weird in that they won't let you walk into the facility. You have to be driving. Luckily a "moped" counts.

i dont know where are u from but this is not urban poor work class wear, look at its price first than judge on people classification. Can u understand that if u choose something to wear which most of the people dont it is your own lifestile. Im 32 and i wear dr.martins airware boots, wehrmacht boots, bomber jackets and hoodies. its simple lifestile. For the price of a bomber jacket u can buy stilish leather coat and still put some money in pocket. alphaindustries.de/maenner/bomber-und-fliegerjacken/cwu-45

But.... Look at the feet of teenagers living in American housing projects. Are Chavs still a thing in England? There are always teen cultures that pop up in poor environments centered around wearing the right labels and looking flashy. Being part of the skinhead scene twenty years ago I can tell you that yes, there were guys making minimum wage working unskilled labor jobs that you never never see out at the bar without a pair of $50 Levi's, a $130 Alpha, $180 Grinders, a $60 Fred Perry, $20 braces. I'd make fun of folks for being such label whores. I spent big money on good boots but pretty much everything else I wore was thriftstore. I was happier spending money on my Triumph than on clothes. Oi oi.

That alpha is effin expensive.
I was too broke to be a label whore but I did have some of the stereotypical brands usually xmas gifts. A pair of Doc's a Fred Perry and Ben. My flight was a knock off, my jeans were what was on sale at walmart or kmart and My braces were hand made.
Now that I'm older and have some more coin my wardrobe has evolved a little. I own suits but theyre from Jos A Bank, my dress shoes and boots are Solovair, Shirts are baracuta and ben, my braces are the same pair I made over 25 yeas ago.
As with any subculture you have some that do it for fashion and trend and others who adopt it as a way of life. My roots are still there and youll find a flight and docs in my closet.

Not sure how this turned into a fashion issue but it goes both ways. I'm 43, come from what they call round here old money. Old southern tobacco money family's worth million and i wear old ratty ass jeans or army surplus camow/od pants, flannel shirts, tshirts, m65 field jacket and combat or desert boots or vans. But the less fortunate or frugal may also be dressed same as me any giving day. But then i have more extreme and costly outdoor wear like mtn hardwAre, columbia and spyder so just goes to say u can't judge a man on his dickie pants lol

Nope, got into scooters when i was 13 (well moped back then 70's) Had to get a first time moped running that had set for almost 2 years and didn't run ($50.00 as is) At age 13 i had worked on a few lawnmowers needed to mow the lawns that got me the $50.00 to buy the moped. A 23cc 2 cycle Mccullum engine ripin a good 15MPH flat and topping out at 20MPH down hill, and if you had a hill that was up? well push-assist (pedal your ass) is what you had to do. (5MPH) Don't ask about the spec's- it was along time ago-- [consort your weed-eater manual.] I started young with a old moped that needed work and i had to make it GO----> dam-it just GO! Pushed that moped down a small hill many of times to get it to run (bad gas had to be worked out of it?) Had lots of bike's since then and at my age, i'm happy to have one that work's for me. That's how i got the bug, and there is no pesticide.
