I bought another Sunny style GY6 50. This marks my third Sunny and fourth scooter. (The $20 Yamaha is still around, a buyer bailed on me today.) I paid $52 for it, non running. Swapped in a good battery and put in some gas. Would only run on starter fluid so I did a compression check and got 55PSI. Mind you, this is with a China gauge. (I got 135PSI with it on my Peace.) I guess it's time to start the fun again. First thing will probably be two swap in a 50mm kit I have on the shelf.

Also I'm pretty sure I saw old gum in the gas tank.

Did you check the valve clearance?

Checked valve clearance, it's fine. It's clearly overdue for an oil change though.

Took the engine apart, looks like there's a little bit of scoring on the piston. While I was messing with my old 50mm kit I noticed that the piston I took out of this scooter is too small for the stock jug from my old Peace.. I measured the bore and it's about 43mm.. What does that mean? Unfortunately, I can't find the piston for it.

Where can I buy just piston circlips and dowels? I need one for the 50mm and can't find any that work.

Got the old dowels out and bent a circlip to shape. Almost done with reassembly.

Got the old dowels out and bent a circlip to shape. Almost done with reassembly. Its not advisable to re-use bent circlips. As inexpensive as they are its cheap insurance to get new ones vs using the old ones and running the risk of it costing you more down the road. Unless you just going slap it together and flip it and and have it blow up with the next owner.

Well, the point is to see how well it runs before I decide to keep it or not. If I keep it, I'll be getting a 52mm and better head.
