I found this great Dirtbike a few weeks ago on craigslist. A 1988 Yamaha DT 50 for $75. Its missing a lot of parts but nothing I can't get. These small displacement enduros can do 50mph stock. Derbi Senda, Keeway TX, HM CRE are few others like it but are only sold in europe. 50cc enduros are great alternative for riders looking to save gas but want something bigger than a scooter. Aprilia RS50 and Derbi GPR 50 are some 50cc crotch rockets also only sold in europe. I just hate how in America, 50cc means this: . And in europe 50cc means this: . It just seems like in this country, big displacement is the only answer. I remember in French class back in High scool in 2001, the teacher was telling us how european kids buy mopeds since they can't afford cars, then the whole class burst out laughing. Our culture was built to guzzle gas. Anyhow $4 gas has brought about changes. I still see hummers, lifted trucks and imports speeding about but there are way more scooters on the road. Meanwile, jobs also getting harder to come by, peak oil rearing its head. Just like in europe, someday the american kid's first vehicle of will be a 50cc bike.

Lots of small cc bikes that are really cool to me just wouldn't sell here. We just now got a CBR 250R from Honda... yet the 2011 model makes almost 20 less HP than the old early 90s 250RR you could get in Europe. We still can' t get the CBR 125R. Those are small cc bikes that can keep up with traffic and would be good options for some people. Some of us are so used to an 1800cc Harley having 75HP that we can't fathom the idea of a usable small displacement bike or scoot.

the other reason kids get small displacement bikes is that a lot of spots in europe you cant get a full dl till you are 18 or older one of my scouts parents hosted a german boy who was 18 and he said the class he had to take to even think about getting a dl to drive a cage was 1800 us dollars

I've seen these geared 50's here in the states: Tank 50cc: Sachs Madass 50cc: They make 50cc bikes with belt drive engines too available here as well: Pulse Rage 50cc GY6

In most European countries you need to be either 17 or 18 to drive. In the UK you can ride a ''moped'' from 16 but can't drive a car until you're 17. In Italy you can ride a moped from 14.

Keep a lookout on CL Philly /DC/Annapolis etc.. You might find a Madass at a decent price. I just searched and came up blank. I kinda like these bikes too. They are rare and I'm not sure where to get one new but apparently you can get 'em cause I've seen a couple on the road here in L.A. They come in all different displacements from 50-125cc>>>>>>>>

I know what you mean fox. Yes, there are 50cc non scooter bikes in the U.S. But aside from the 50cc Mad Ass, those are all knockoffs and Chinese. Especially the Gilera DNA knockoff at the bottom made by Junbo and pulse rage, how blatent of a copyright violation! What I would like to see are the 50cc bikes by the big boys (Honda, Aprilia, Derbi) imported here again. Like this Derbi Senda 50 Or the Aprilia RS50 Yamaha TZR 50 I want to be able to buy those quality built small displacement bikes, here in the states. The bikes above are a start of the 50cc movement, and maybe if they sell enough chinese junbo junk, it will attract the big manufacturers to sell adult 50cc bikes here again.

I know Wildfire made a 125cc like that one Fox. I had it bookmarked in case I ever got enough money to buy it. Now it's gone from their site and I can't find it elsewhere. Superior Powersports had a moped with the same powerplant, not as aesthetically appealing, for about $500. That's what I actually thought I may be able to get. It disappeared too.

And another thing. Why is Harley Davidson the only American motorcycle (now built in india) of any kind on the road. Buell has been shut down. I'd love to support my country and get an American bike. But all we make here are 30mpg, v-twin, obnoxiously loud, 1/2 ton monsters. We build our modern bikes like we built cars in the 60's.
Earth to Harley Davidson; The Hells Angel's generation is aging, its time to to cater to us. Or join the likes of Packard Motor Cars in the history books!

Well, I think that a major portion of Harley's bottom line is the export market hence the India factory. I'm sure they ship a ton of bikes to South America and elsewhere. I mean if you live in say Chile or Argentina a big, loud Harley is an 'Exotic" imported bike. They do make Harley pipes that are quiet(er). Sachs Madasses are made in China apparently. www.asianproducts.com/product/A12790024820038141_P12790033255272542/50amp;125cc-german-sachs.htmlI would like to get a hold of one of these Honda MB5 screamers but they are just too much money for me.

It's not a bad price when you look at it vs the $1000 knockoff I linked to especially. So much nicer. Also, look how big those brakes and wheels are. Not gonna find too many scoots with that stuff. Like you said though, that doesn't make $2000 any easier to come up with.
