Hey everyone, I finished rebuilding the DT50 about three months ago but I forgot to update you guys. I bought it for $75 and now have a good $1000 in it ($400 of that for titling). It gets up to 50MPH and I can get 72mpg with easy riding. Also, Last August I was fired from the scooter dealership I was working at (mgmt going in new direction). That week I started my own scooter repair shop "The Scooter Doctor LLC". It's mom and pop operation and i run it with my wife (the scooter nurse, lol, jk). Scooters are only gaining popularity here with reasons being. High gas prices, unemployment, higher registration fees and insurance rates on cars. The scooter is the main and sole mode of transportation for half of my customers. 50cc in America is becoming vogue. Attachments:

Good luck with your new venture. In my area, at least from my experiences, most people still scoot for recreation. I had 1 customer that only owned a scoot. All of the rest used them at times to save gas or just to enjoy the ride.

Great thread with great scoots! Man, I would love a 2 stroke 50 motard... But, just the little bit of riding I've been doing on Jazz has my convinced I would end up tarnishing my perfect driving record if I did... That enduro looks awesome. Relying ONLY on a 50? I did that for 4 months before I got a "real motorcycle." That was 3 years ago and I've still stuck with the 250cc class (though, to be fair, my current 250 is bored out). Even with the 250 (aka, "351"), I get a lot of people baffled that I rely on just a motorcycle AND "it's just a 250." Imagine if it was "just a 50!" I see it in the industry all the time. Brand new riders with only maybe (maybe) minimal dirt experience starting out on 600cc IL4's. And they contemplate getting a 1000. They can't wait to "move up." I don't sell bikes, but I get into conversations with them in the gear area, or out on the streets. I try to explain why smaller is better. Cheaper to own, cheaper to insure, cheaper to maintain, more agile, more fun in the twisties, a forgiving teacher on throttle and clutch control, will make you a far better rider if you do ever "move up," etc. I tell them how I can keep up with the 600's and liter bikes in the corners at Heartland Park Track, even though my bike has less than 30HP and those bikes have well over 100HP. I tell them speed isn't everything, that useable torque in an urban environment will give them more giggles in day to day riding... None of this every goes over well. In America, we want Super Sized everything. It's going to be a hard sell. PS- When my KLX250sf was bone stock, I was getting 75-80mpg. Now with the big bore and mods and such... 50 on a good day That's my fun tax.

Thats a nice lil bike. I remember riding my quad through some trails with a buddy when we stumbled across a couple other guys on bikes. One was one of those. The guy even smiled after climbing a pretty good hill and said, "guess what size it is?" i think i said a 100cc or something back then? He said "NOPE, Its a 50!!!" Lol, that guy was sooo proud of that thing. It did VERY well tho! Climbed everything he pointed it at! As long as it was on the pipe it was mooovin!

I used to own a dt50 when i was a teenager was really nice. the worse thing about it was the front drum brake if you went through water it would take a full strip down to get it working right again. I have been looking at buying one to restore, but they go for a lot of money now. Even a none runner goes for about $400 here.
