The europeans have more options for higher end name brand scooters, such as the Aerox (the one in the videos). Those videos are of highly modified scooters done by highly skilled enthusiasts and have a shitload of expensive high end parts. Not to mention they are liquid cooled, so the parts can perform at higher extremes. Here's a thread with some pictures of the restyling of the commonly found (in the States) Keeway Matrix, which has a very common body style. A few members here (including me) have Tritons, or clones. One of the clones is a Keeway Matrix. The above thread shows what can be done if you have the right vision.

If you can find a Yamaha Aerox, an undertail kit, and a good body shop you will be well on your way to having a really sweet looking scoot. A lot of that stuff is, as drawkward said, custom work done by enthusiasts. If you can work with fiberglass and body filler, you are really only limited to what you can think up. A trick paintjob to top it off really seals the deal.
The bars and stuff are easy to come by. Enviromoto sells them, as do many sellers. You just need a handlebar adapter and a set of bars that you like. SIP Scootershop has a nice selection as well.
The real big advantage over in Europe is the engine tuning. Parts are a lot easier to come by and so are experts with dynos. Good luck finding a shop in the US with Malossi MHR, Polini Evolution, Stage 6 R/T, etc... type stuff sitting on a shelf and a garage in the back with a dyno and some folks that really know how to use it. That's not to say you can't build a high end scoot, you just have to pay big international shipping rates and wait longer for parts.

Yeah, scooter tuning in Europe is a big thing. Just 1:15 drive away from me is a shop that stocks all the tuning parts for the piggy/mina engines as well as a $30k load cell dyno for setting it up perfect. There is also another dyno just 35mi away I can get my scoot setup on.
Germany is the real home of scooter tuning, that's where all the big shops and brands are based.
20bhp is achievable from a 70cc LC engine, with access to the right know-how and parts.

yeah ill tell you getting aerox parts to the states is a bitch but that going lc is oh so sweet its nice sitting up right doing 50 mph and not seeing your temp climb or notice a drop in performance towards the endvand of a 60 mile ride the 2 gallon tank in the aerox is also sweet it would be real nice for those of us that get 35 mpg

Thanks for the info fellas...I wonder if/when the scooter tuning will take off over here. Gas keeps going up....who knows-the European tuners are amazing some of those dyno videos were getting impressive power from 50/70cc.!! As a side note I am really eyeballing this scoot.. www.scootertronics.com/bacciodlx50.htmland this one.. www.scootertronics.com/benellix50.htmlalthough I will continue to test the used market...a couple Aprilia sr50s have popped up recently (locally) for decent money-decisions decisions.

To be honest, I can wait. The more popular it gets, the more attention we'll get from police. I'd rather pay a premium and have to wait for my parts than to have to register my 50cc and be stopped routinely by police to make sure I'm within the restrictions of the law. I pass police on my "49cc, 35mph" scooter pushing 55mph and blowing ear drums all the time. Yeah, sometimes they look. Been pulled over ONCE here in my county. I was in the "bad side" of town, revving and grabbing my clutch over and over at a stop light in front of a cop that I didn't see. He asked me if it was legal, I said yes, he left. That being said... I would love to have one of those bikes under me right now...

drawkward, i see you are in VA. I grew up near Leesburg. Since moved to PA (near Pittsburgh). We can't even begin to THINK about registering a Chinese bike here. Doesn't matter the CC. PA won't recognize any of the Chinese bill of sales or title paperwork (at least what I have been told). Therefore, I want to stay at 49cc (on the paperwork) so I can do the same thing up here.
"Yep officer it's legal ...see 49cc"!!

Leesburg! Not too far from here. Used to do a lot of construction that way. Was the only place where people were still building during the hardest parts of the recession. Blowing up, for sure. I like the area I'm in now - very chill. I used to live in Orange, if you where that is. I have yet to miss it, and probably never will.

I know excatly where Orange is..my aunt and uncle used to live there for years-visited them a few times. They moved to Alabama (just in time for tornados) by God's grace the twisters missed them by a few miles. They don't miss Orange either!
