That's where universal income comes into play. Citizens are given a base level of income if they need it. They spend that money and the cogs of the machine stay greased. You can look at SNAP benefits as an example. Every $1 spent on SNAP provides an economic boost of around $1.80 to the GDP. It's a fallacy that a majority of people on public assistance programs are lazy and can't work. Most do work, but don't make a living wage. They would love to work and earn more. Universal income is the same. Those who can't earn enough are given a base amount. They can work to improve their situation so they can earn more.
Free stuff NEVER cured social problems...just made living off others more popular and available and became the anchor that pulls all the hard working responsible people under water. Socialism is a grand idea...until you run out of other peoples money
I'm having a hard time with all the people these days who keep thinking anyone deserves this or that FREE without earning it through their hard work or productivity. Scary.
I've read studies that indicate we spend approx. 150% more on a corporate welfare than social. Wells Fargo is one of the biggest corporate welfare queens in Iowa. And oddly one of the biggest criminal sociopath corporations in the country.
Socialism is a fickle thing, we always call it subsidies, tax credits etc when we hand it to criminal CEOs.
Our former governor will be going to China to sell out Iowa and the US in exchange for stuffing Farm Bureau pockets soon it seems. He agreed to endorse the new POTUS in exchange for his support of farm welfare and cramming ethanol down your throats.
That would be the same governor who supported the use of eminent domain to take land for a Texas pipeline company in Iowa, but called another candidate an oil industry prostitute because he wanted to end farm welfare and ethanol mandates.
The problem with partisan politics in a country ruled by a corporate oligarchy is that we all too often end up pointing the fingers at our neighbors for the sins of the oligarchy.
