I've been in a bad mood since my neighbor kicked my door in, and there's a trip I've always wanted to take on a scoot. Someone was around to watch my grandmother and with a truck just in case, so yesterday seemed like the perfect time to do it.
I went from my place in Preston, MD to Ocean City, MD and back. Also going through a few other beaches in that area. I wanted to try it once before Memorial Day, because these beaches and the roads to them get PACKED during the beach season from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Traffic wasn't bad at all yesterday.
I've never took the route I used yesterday, because I normally just follow the highway. I didn't wanna be on the shoulder of the big highways, so I found this route. The section I've never been on before was actually very cool. A bit of twisty roads through a woods.
On one section of windy road, I learned what all the fuss is about with "road snakes" (those black squiggly tar lines on the pavement). I've seen them plenty, but they never bothered me. Well, I've never seen them like this road. It was ridiculous. I could feel the scooter getting loose every time a tire touched one. It's a really unnerving feeling when you go into a corner you don't know faster than you should and then run over some snakes.
I think I was riding from about 3PM to 10PM. The only stops I made were fro gas (averaged about 50MPG) and the bathroom or a brief leg stretch or photo. I coulda rode more, but it was getting chilly to the point that I was shivering at times the last 50 miles. I took some extra gear for the temp drop at night, but not quite enough I guess.
I took the GoPro and filled it with 21GB of video. Went to load it to the computer last night and all the files are corrupt. I can't watch a single video. I tried repairing with some free programs online and nothing. If anyone knows of a good way to repair MP4 video, lemme know. Thought I'd be able to cut a vid together, but it looks like I wont. Sucks. It's a really cool area.
I did get a few pics, but not much. I never anticipated any issues with the video. Never had a problem with it. Figures it would happen on this trip.
With all the gadgets it's starting to look like a Harley dash. lol Oh well. It's really nice having a GPS for a speedometer and just in case I get lost. Gotta love the stereo on the long stretches of road, especially on the way home at night.
