I guess because of the lower msrp price (compare to motorcycles), the dealers usually tack on lots of additional costs to make a profit? Seems like anywhere from $1200 to $1600 for deliver, prep, doc fees, license, etc.
What was your msrp price and OTD price for your new scoot?

The only scooter that I ever bought new from a brick and mortar dealer was my first, a Chinese Vento Triton 49cc 2T. I bought it from a dealer about 70 miles away, because you couldn't buy new scooters too many places around here at the time. It was $1460 out the door. Being such a detail oriented Chinese scooter dealer, I got a receipt torn out of a sales receipt book like you can buy at office supply stores. It was painstakingly itemized as price, tax, and total. IIRC, I was looking at Tritons online for around $1000 back then and MSRP was said to be something like $1500 so you were always "getting a deal".
Just some fun extra info : My dealer also told me it was made in the USA. My understanding was that Ventos were assembled in Texas or Mexico back then, but all parts were actually made in China. He told me they were made in the USA, but I read enough to know that was bull even being new to scooters.

Bought 2 from a Scoot Shop. First was okay but Dude mislead me into believing that the 150 that I was buying was Built in Canada(imported from China not made in Canada silly me) and he only fixed 1 problem that I had under the warranty. He fixed my Throttle that was sticking at WOT but never my perpetually flat tyre. Hole in the rim that I fixed myself with JB Weld as well as the fact that he but the rear tyre backward. Second time was way better. Scooter was $3600+ Taxes So $4200 after tax. On older models or End of Series they take off the $500 they charge for PDI, Freight, Admin and Licensing which I got. And they managed to fix my stalling issue that I was having after looking for the root cause for 2 weeks. Problem was traced back to clogged fuel lines.

I understand Genuine dealers charge a hefty out the door premium. I bought my GS Roughhouse Sport from a dealer and got a good deal. Scoot was new with 50 miles on it from a lady that wanted a Red one that needed to be ordered from GS. MRP: $2,199 but Matt (the owner) told me over the phone that he had one with 50 miles on it and would waver all setup and delivery fees and still have the 2 year warranty with 2 years road side assistance. $1,790 with tax. I went to the dealer with cash in hand and looked at the bike.. Yep, not a scratch on it and had all the stuff you get with a o mile scooter. Title/manual and keys in hand i was gone and my next scooter very well might come from the same dealer. Even got a GS T-shirt in the mail with all other paperwork.

That was a good deal. It's amazing what 50 miles can knock off.

I bought a brand new Honda ruckus from a dealer a bit by accident. I was just looking at them online, thinking about buying one. when I clicked the get a quote link I didn't realize that I was applying for financing. well I got a call the next day from the local Honda dealer telling me my scooter was ready for me to pick up. zero down and my payments would be 55 per month for 5 years. I don't remember exactly what I paid total, or the fees involved. but the interest totaled less than 500 total over the course of the five years. I actually paid less than that though because I paid it off early.
If I remember correctly the actual price was like 2500 and the total price after title and tax was like 2700. when I got there they had to remove the scooter from the crate for me and put fluids in it. then I rode it home like 30 miles.

motorcycle not a scooter but fees should be the same if not slightly more.
3000 MSRP, 3500 OTD
seems reasonable, like 200 for tax, 150 for freight, 50-100 for titiling/registration and 50-100 for profit.

a dealer called me regarding an advertised price of $2499, and he told be OTD price is $4,029.72... and tried to make it sound like an incredible deal...haha

^^ yeah I did ask him to break it doon. 590 for shipping, 580 for dealer prep, plus this and that doc fees and plates, plus sales tax all came oot to 1,530.
I think I could be ok with msrp, plus tax, and they could charge $400 or $500 on top of that.
so if a scoot is $3390 msrp, I could live with $4000 OTD...

delivery is only like 100-200. 580 for "dealer prep". ask them what they did to prep it, at shop labor rates thats like 6+ hours of work.
tl;dr: they are lying and there bottom line is much lower. But if people are buying them for that price, they might just hold on to it and find another idiot. Try another dealer lol
Call them out on it and they will either offer you something reasonable or go to another dealer.
