New to the world of 49cc scooters, in fact I got it yesterday and just rode it to work for the first time this morning! Its a TAOTAO ATM50-A (cheap) and I would like to find out where to buy an exhaust pipe. The guy I bought it from tried to sell me a performance upgrade package for $800 and said it would hit 45-50 with ease, but I thought I'd do some digging and see how hard they are to mod myself.

Any help will be appreciated!

From a quick search, it looks like the scoot you have should be a GY6 50cc (139QMB).

You don't really need to spend $800. The exhaust really isn't a big power adder. You'll get the most for the least with a big bore kit. Enviromoto (see the banner on the main page to learn about 49ccScoot discounts) carries some nice power packs.
