I have a little chinese 49cc scooter, i've had for about 6 months with approx 2,000 miles on it. This morning I was riding it, and it just stopped accelerating. The engine will run and rev when I hit the throttle, but no power is being transferred to the back wheel! Please help

Thank you for your quick response, is the kick start cover easy to remove?

Yea, should be 8mm bolts in the cover, like 12 or more.

Actually, there's 8 bolts on the short case and 10 on the long case. You most likely have the short case. The gasket is probably stuck pretty good so to separate the cover from the engine the first time I use a rubber hammer and whack the cover on the back to break the seal. Then the cover will come off easily. The kick start lever makes a good handle to pull on. If the gasket tears, it doesn't matter. Just reinstall it torn or scrape it all off and reinstall the cover with no gasket. It's really not a necessity to have a gasket. The Gates Powerlink belts are the best. 669-18-30 or 669-18.1 will work on a short case. I think the long case uses a 743 ? The old belt may have shredded pretty good and left a lot of debris inside the case. This should be cleaned out thoroughly. To install the new belt you'll need an impact wrench to remove the variator. That's the pulley toward the front of the scooter. You may need to remove the rear pulley if there is belt chunks visible in there. Both nuts are lefty-loosey. NEVER spray any type of carb cleaner or brake cleaner on the rear pulley and never lube the variator weights. It's okay to remove the Starter Bendix and put a small dab of grease on the shaft ends where it rotates. Just a little. I use a Cheap 12 volt emergency tire impact I got from an auto parts store for $30. It will do the job on the nut. Then you remove the entire variator, inspect and clean it out and reinstall it making sure the weights and guides are installed correctly. The main thing when reassembling is to get the variator all together and slide it all the way onto the crankshaft in one piece not allowing the weights to shift. Then the center bushing, belt, and then the outer pulley half and the nut. Hit the nut three or four times with the impact to tighten it good. These videos will help you to understand how it all works: 50cc CVT in action: www.youtube.com/watch?v=viWOOvy45wI150 disassembly and reassembly: www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyb9NyR-SjsNOTE: Do not try and start your scoot with the cover off! The guy in the second video has a 150cc which is different than a 50cc. You can damage the starter gear (Bendix) on a 50cc running the engine without the cover because the cover holds it. Emergency Impact: Remove this nut: Then remove the outer pulley half: Variator parts: The weights fit into the slots: The back plate then fits over the weights. You can see the three guides on the back plate. Starter Bendix:

Very good write up. Makes it pretty much self-explanatory.
