Definitely do copious research. Know your market. Learn all the pitfalls of your particular segment. Shearch out forums. Try to talk to someone has done this. Keep in mind that according to Forbes 80% of first time small businesses fail, many due to under capitalization on startup. Unforseen expenses will hit from every direction. Most likely local laws will dictate the amount and kinds of bonds or insurance you will need. Even exceeding these would probably be a good idea.

I've been hanging out for the last couple of months with the ice cream guy that comes through my neighborhood, have become quite good friends and he's been teaching me all the little tricks of the trade and so I think I'm going to do pretty good. I'm much more optimistic about this endeavor than I was about my last small business, which failed miserably. I also have about 6 months of reserve cash this time and also credit cards with high limits if I need those. And as a bonus, I'm also getting a house and will be moving into it by the end of next month. It's just a rental (that costs less than this apartment), but now I won't have to worry about the van's getting broken into.

Here's the first van. She's an ugly duckling for now, but I enjoy making ugly things look nice again

Believe it or not, that's a tuff game haha. Vending machines and arcade games used to be a racket up here in Seattle years ago. You could get your knees broke in that game! Haha

Here's the first van. She's an ugly duckling for now, but I enjoy making ugly things look nice again I really appreciate the "children crossing" signs. I think all ice cream trucks should have something like this! I would leave it white. I don't think you need to do a paint job or anything. As long as it's got the ice cream and loud enough speakers 🙂👍 I think some big letters or even some type of sign sitting on top of the van. "Ice cream" , like Brent suggested.

I'm going to get it painted, but it's going to be cheap. There's just a lot of bad spots on the outside of the van that drive me nuts and I can't help myself to not fix them. I guess it's the perfectionist in me. I'm also getting the "ice cream" letters cheap by the people that did the decals for my scooter. 30 dollars and they are a foot tall.
