My mother in law is old but I have grown fond of the crazy old lady. Over spring break we've spent a bit of time with her. She had seemed a bit off from normal but not bad. The last few days have been different. I was sure she needed to see her Dr to see what was up. Tonight when my brother in law went to check on her (she lives with him)he came back out and called us. Something wasn't right and he wanted to take her to hospital. Well the ambulance came and got her (she is frail and we didn't want to hurt her)and took her to hospital. They transferred here by helicopter from Ludington to grand Rapids. I'm not sure what is wrong but they told my wife the only reason they did this is she was out and doing things 2 days ago. They couldn't believe that. If she had come from a nursing home they wouldn't have. They said she would be better off with cancer than this infection. Must be bad. She could use any prayers you could send her way

I am in a similar situation with my mother in law, she is old and "ready to go home" she said. The wife and my daughters visited her over the weekend, it won't be long.
I will keep you and yours in my thoughts.

Thank you all. My wife called half an hour ago. The Dr's took her off the ventilator and she passed within a minute. I didn't know she was that bad, she was just here watching movies and dinner 2 days ago

Sorry to hear that Brian. My thoughts are with you and your family.
Even though it's tough to see someone go so unexpectedly, I often think as if it were me. I'd sure rather be relatively healthy till it's my time than to be miserable for a long time. I took care of my grandmother for years and I can tell you that it ain't fun to watch anyone slowly decline. A preacher would come to see her and she would cry and tell him she's ready to go for years. Sorry to sound bleak, but in some sense it may be a blessing for things to happen more suddenly.
