Do you work for Netflix? It sounds like you have some 'insider' info. Just a quick search of "why did netflix change its rating system" and clicked on the first article. Man, I wish I worked at Netflix.

Thanks, I wondered. Their 'reasons' are not my concern though. I have to be able to use the system, and as it is it's a PITA. I ain't paying for PITA service. There are plenty of other places to watch more streaming content than they have. I did a Google search on that and have links all bookmarked and they seem to work well. My smart TV had a few built in places to look also. A Raspberry Pi strapped on the back will give me a much wider choice. Somebody should market a complete pre-programmed Pi setup or a bring your own Pi or even a memory card.

I didn't make any progress on the Pi setup. My almost 15 year old computer crashed hard so I got a new one. The old one was an office reject back in '09 that was rescued from the scrap heap. Finding a new one with W7 Pro was a pain. Intel and MS have teamed up to make using W7 on new hardware a problem. I ended up with a Micro Center B661 with a Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD for the operating system drive. I have W7 and W10 OS disks for it. I used my old keyboard and mouse on the new machine. I lost a backup for my Email in the disaster. I needed a clean install for Firefox and Thunderbird anyway. My installs for those programs had configuration setting carried over from around 30 years ago. Buying a computer instead of just repairing the one I had was expensive but installing the OS on it would have been almost impossible without professional help.
I have found even more places to get new and better selections of movies and TV. Netflix was a great place to organize my watch lists until they Fu**ed it all up. The third strike means they are out of the game.

It looks like someone has started producing a device similar to a Raspberry Pi with Kodi installed. It is called the 'TVFrog'. $70 isn't a bad price for a pre-setup device with a specialized remote considering that half of that price would be a R-Pi alone. BTW, If anyone is interested in email programs, I don't recommend the new 'redesigned' Thunderbird 52.x. It is full of bugs. The older versions worked well. You can find info on the older versions here: kb.mozillazine.org/Go_back_to_an_old_version_of_ThunderbirdI would suggest using 45.8.0 or similar older versions. I am still 'tweaking' my new computer. I am very picky about the way things run, just like my scoot. I am old and cranky, my eyes are failing, my fingers don't work. Getting old is a PITA. I am a PITA too. Like my sig says: -Mac the A--Hole, a Horrible & Worthless person. I should be more like Sgt. Schultz and quit trying to help or educate people. I am so very tired......

I got a Xiaomi Mi box from Walmart and after a long night of eye bleeding research had it set up with Kodi and the "No Limits" (non porn version) build. Best $70 I ever spent! A month later and the whole fam is used to using and navigating it and we've never been happier to drop that HUGE cable bill!

By now the kids have filled the one internal drive, and a good chunk of the dish extetnal drive as well. 400+ channels and they watch the same snit over and over again....kille me please.

'Kill' the DVR drives.... Thankfully I live alone. Cable and broadcast TV is so full of ads It is unbearable to watch. I will need to figure out how to integrate a DVR system. My old bladder and the microwave does not synch well with ads. How does one live tethered to a TV?

I still get to pay $175 a month for it, the phone (which has not been plugged in for 2-3 years), and internet. Stupid? yes!

I have an old Vizio TV that until recently hadn't been turned on for 7 years. When I turned it on and saw broadcast TV I puked. I used to watch a netflix movie on the desktop PC while I was eating. Watching an ad for some bowel disease medication while eating is not appetizing. I don't need Viagra and my prostate is just fine thanks. The 25 second sound bite news and weather with ads is useless, I prefer to read my news. 'Talking head' experts are to be avoided at all costs.
Note; I used an old FM radio dipole antenna to pick up the local stations. It seems to work OK and cost me $0. Did I mention I am cheap??? I guess that comes down from my old Scottish heritage. LOL
I have an old flip phone for emergency communication that costs me about $7 per month. I do have a VOIP phone (not from my ISP) for a 'landline' that costs me $13/month. I got in on the Google 'zero cost' for 7 years slow 5Mb-down/1Mb-up internet once a $300 connect fee was paid. It is fast enough for streaming a movie, internet browsing, email, and the VOIP phone. Internet sites throttle my connections anyway so why 'gigabit' for 'normal' use?

So painfully true.
I actually record the shows I plan on watching so I can skip throughout the commercials. I agree FM, watching a commercial for I.B.S over a plate of anything is not ideal... I also feel that the times of Idiocracy are fast approaching... This kind of broadcast television wouldn't have flown over ten or so years ago. About the only thing I watch is Velocity network (gear head shows) Discovery an dof course the new MacGyver and that show Scorpion.

I am not organized enough to record shows...

Truth be told, neither am I, but the DVR is programmable to record a certain show either all episodes, new episodes, daily weekly yadda yadda yadda. If it weren't for the scheduling festure, and the fact it can record two shos simultaneously, I wouldn't get my shows either..

But, but, but, you are over 14, -how can you program a DVR? Maybe I should get one and learn how to program it, -NOoo. I just signed up for another Plex streaming service. I haven't had the TV on for days though.

I currently have a giant TV in my living room taking up space, and I never turn it on. I'm always watching Netflix or YouTube on my phone or tablet. I'm gonna get rid of the TV i think.
