I just bought a scooter that has a 70cc bbk, leo vince exhaust, performance carb and various other performance parts on it and I just got done burning up my second variator on it! The variator got so hot that it melted the ramp plate guides and totally melted the plastic off the roller weights. And on both of them it sheared the teeth off the variator face and ramp plate. My guess is that the belt is slipping and making it extremely hot. So from what I've been reading it seems like I should put a stiffer contra spring in it. Is that theory correct?

Take the rear clutch apart and check that its working right. It maybe working against the variator.

Also make sure you've got good cvt ventilation to try to get the heat out.
