i do a little work on the side out of my own garage
but i also have some friends in town that own a scooter dealership and repair shop
so from time to time i enjoy stoping by and just hanging out at there shop its nice to sit there and visit with them and all the other customers
and the fact that they know i wrench i get work from them and from time to time they put me to work in there shop
and some of the stuff you see come in just amazes me
today im just sitting there and they are behind on services (he is a teacher and schools still going on here for another couple of weeks)
and joel asks for some help(they either pay cash or in parts)
he says he has been haveing trouble getting the jettine down on this eton that another shop kitted 2 years ago hasnt been running right he said the plug was white as can be and he had tried a few larger jets and it just wasnt working out
so i grab the jet drills to use as a gauge and find where it was falling flat on its self and go one smaller
drill it out(now im not a big fan of drilling jets i buy jets just to tune and when i do a scoot i just replace the jet that i pulled out of my stash most of the time)
get it all put back and go to fire it up and the dam float was stuck closed
get the float un stuck and get it started let it run choke on for a minute or 2 and take it for a test run
at first every thing is great nice acelleration no issues but something just doesnt sound just right
hit the turn around and now there is a hell of a bog at 30 and she is starting to smell
get it back to the shop and pull the plug
its a 7 on a bbk hm engine  ask joel and he said that he put the same plug in as was in there without even thinking
go and double check the parts bag and sure enough there is a 7 in the bag and it looks just like the one i pull out
detonation
go to the drawer and hes out of 8 so i grab a 9 and go on another run
and now she runs like a top a nice smoke ring in the base
but there is still just a bit of a 30 mph lag but its not jetting
it lags there at wot 3/4 and even 1/2 so im sure its just a trans issue but thats not what the owner was complaining about
he was complaining that his plug was white even after takeing it back to the shop that put the kit on and claimed to tune it
and just think had another set of eyes not looked at things real quick who knows how long the wrong plug could have casued trouble getting the scoot up and running right
you would think that a shop that had adds up promotine them moding scoots would have at least put the right plug in and that it just needed a bit of fine tuneing on the jetting but nope
