Any luck with an engine yet? You did such a good job on the body. It would be great to get it running for the riding season.

If you design it for that, it is more accessible (banshees are so abundant) Also looking at your gears. LMK if you need any, I have about ten million gears and primaries laying around.

I could make one for a RD350 but I don't have such a thing around me to measure it off. I am buddies with the trials dealer though, and the motor these came off of hasn't changed since 2001 so they are abundant. Also they are the right size for a 25ish Hp motor and it is a nice tidy package.
They also make a Keihin version as well if you wanna go that route.
The motor is done, I will do a reveal soon. Once I get this inlet printed and the new carb on it is "done" other than the front shock which I am having a time trying to locate. I had this PX fork (well I assumed it was a PX fork, as the motor that was originally on the Allstate was a PX200 Swap) But the PX shock I ordered is about 2 inches too long.

I just uploaded a V2 Print, the first one took 30+ hours to print and used a ton of material. (like 1kg of material almost.)
After holding it in my hands I was able to see where I could cut corners on it. I also had the fan on and my layer adhesion was absolutely terrible. Sooo...
This one says its a 13 hour print in the slicer.
The fork isn't the original, I went with this mystery fork cause it had the new 10" brakes on it Mostly because when I test drove it last year the stock 8" brakes were, well horrifying.... I modified the steering lock lugs on it to get it to fit this older frame. But the shock has no dampening oil left in it so I really need to find a replacement...

Cool thread. It started a while ago now, but I've only just noticed it.
Sorry such a cool scooter turned into such an expensive headache. I'd heard vaguely of those cheap Viet Namese rebuilds/restorations. And I'd heard that they're not very good.
But I'm astounded to think that someone would band-aid together a rusted/torn monoccoque (Spelling?) body with Bondo and odd filler. That sounds close to attempted murder.
If these darned things are to be found in the USA or Canada, then everyone had better watch out for a classic Vespa that's a bit too good to be true.

Its the reason why when you go on the Vespa boards 99 percent tell you just to buy an old beat up scooter and start with that... because you will end up rebuilding the whole thing anyway.
Any that are fresh paint or 2 tone be extremely weary unless they can provide rebuild pictures.

pitobread, Thank God you are a machinist and can polish that turd back into a nice ride..I feel sorry for the poor 'bolt on' builders that buy one and end up being bankrupt over a bad buy...

Gotta say, started first kick even with the trials bike jetting in the carb, and it is real crisp.
Downside is had to shave the intake down with a sander a bunch, will need a V3 version with a tad more clearance. It will still work however just need to shave the side down.
Will also need to take the heat gun to the cylinder shroud to get the carb to clear.
Gotta make a throttle cable next and get it out for a rip.

Even with doing most everything myself, I could have made a lot of scooters for the price that this one cost.

Here is a link to a 73 page thread on the subject of these Bodged scooters. I read about half of it and now I don't trust any of the vintage Vespas I see posted on Craigs list. I found a scoot on CL near me and it sounded good. The guy sent me pictures and I posted them on the thread and there were at least 5 reasons from the pictures why it was a bodge. I emailed the guy and offered him $300 when he wanted $1200. I then told him why $300 was generous and he was insulted and told me I was just scamming him. Pitobread I'm glad you're making this work for you.

Yep, they are EVERYWHERE. There is/were a few companies in the states that prey on people not knowing and selling these bodges.
If it's got a bunch of chrome, it's 2 tone, or the paint is new... Just burn your wallet. It is more cost effective.

The other things are mystery glove boxes or 10" wheels. Allstates are pretty safe, I doubt any got shipped to Vietnam.
