Getting a Razz up and running for a buddy's daughter. been sitting for about 1.5 years. Drained fuel and pre-mix, replaced plug and cleaned carb. Added synthetic pre-mix, starts and idles like a champ w/minimal to no smoke. If I take it on a ride after approx 1/4mile it just dies. Then when you stop hit the choke a tad it fires back up for about another 1/4 mile. Any ideas? I'm almost thinking clogged fuel tank vent that increases pressure in the tank inhibiting flow or maybe the diaphram in teh fuel pump is shot.

:welcome:
After that long definitely go over everything in the fuel system thoroughly. I don't think the petcock will work on and off like that. You can test your theory of the fuel vent easily by leaving the fuel cap off (don't fill it all the way up of course) and seeing if it quits doing it.

It doesn't have a petcock to the best of my knowledge, just this little unit on the side of the frame rail with a diaphragm in it assume and hose from tank/in and to carb/out

Replace, or at the very least, verify, the operation of the vacuum petcock. It is located bolted to the bottom of the fuel tank, and yes, they gum up just like a carburetor.
That said, I have no idea what you are going to do about a new one. The OEM one was made in Italy, should be rebuildable, but there are no kits. Superseded by expensive Taiwan junk by Yamaha, and aftermarket ones are dodgy. (I went through 5 before installing a manual petcock from a Yamaha Raptor).
Good luck

That's the sucker, vaccum petcock, on the frame rail under the tank on the rider's left side. I'll dis-assemble and clean. So they don't make the diaphragms anymore .. dammit!

If its on the frame rail you could just put a manual shut off valve on it and be done with the pesky trouble maker. You should be able to get a manual shut off valve at your local parts store or even hardware store for a lawnmower and put that on it. Thats what I use on mine.
