What's out there for street legal 2 strokes that aren't dumb expensive?
I'm not in the market yet but when I sell my Comet I'd like to buy a motorcycle. I'm thinking 150-350cc 2 stroke.

If it's anything like over here, it's expensive. Any type of Yamaha RD250/350 is crazy money now. The 250 race reps are big money too. If you got them there the old air cooled RD200 are a good buy. Not as desirable as the bigger versions. What about some of the air cooled trail bikes? Prices of these are not as much as street bikes here.

An enduro would work for me. Lots of stuff like that I see for sale comes with no title and has lost most of its lights and such after being used strictly off-road all its life. Plus I notice most of the manufacturers did a street and an off-road version of the same bikes. I'd hate to buy something hinging it was road legal then have the DMV tell me uhh unh just because it's got a M in the vin where it should have a G

If you're in the States, there aren't any new 2T motorcycles. I think the last was in 1985.
You could still find a used '85 Yamaha RZ350 (Kenny Roberts rep.), but they are expensive!

Dunno about the usa but over here virtually any dirtbike can be made streetlegal. For instance, my cr500 is streetlegal. You see a lot of 250cc+ ktm enduro's that have plates. Maybe a kawasaki kdx is an option? Or an early yamaha wr? Suzuki rmx? Maybe an mk1 aprilia rs125, with the squarish headlight?
The classics (80's and older) are super expensive, you might wanna look for the in between bikes, no classics (yet) but too old and outdated for modern standards. The 90's bikes are the way to go.

The Suzuki rmx250 is a great bike. Has a light circuit in the stator so an easy convert. Great suspension and power out the ass. Mine was comfortable and would have made a great street bike with one of those kits to make it legal (turn signals, brake light etc) if I remember right out topped out about 75mph stock but it could have really used an up gear to make it street friendly. Had good torque and pulled good before it got on the pipe, once it hit the pipe you better be holding on cause it came alive and would stand right up if you weren't paying attention
