was wondering if anyone could help me diagnose whats wrong with my scooter.. it was running great 2 days ago... last night i went out and stopped at the petrol station to buy some 2T motorcycle oil and put some oil in the oil tank. rode about 20km - no problems. then after a couple hrs rode home and after about 8km noticed it stuttering a bit when taking off at the lights. happened a few times and then it finally died and i had to walk it home... basically now, it kind of starts, but then when i turn the throttle, it dies. the scooter does not move at all.. its not like its moving and then dies, its not making enough power to move at all. i walked it to a local bike shop and they said they wouldnt touch it/look at it because its a chinese scooter.... rang the next place down the road and they said the same its only got 1500km on it, so its not like its old. any ideas to help me fix it myself would be much appreciated. i don't know if it has anything to do with the oil, but i just mentioned it because thats what i did.

It sounds like possibly a clogged jet. If the main jet gets clogged it will start up and sometimes you can even go at a few MPH if you are careful with the throttle, but give it too much and it cuts out. Pull the carb off and look through the jets and clean everything. Might be a good time to replace the fuel filter if it's been awhile.

i just changed the jet about 2 months ago (and have ridden about 300km since).
do you think it could be clogged up with buildup (in that time) or something foreign is clogging it?

Probably something foreign. Small bits of a hose going bad or some junk that broke loose from the gas tank... it's hard to say. You're quite close to the symptoms of a clogged jet though, so whatever may or may not be there, I'd definitely look there first.

hey you're a champ! thanks!
i took the carburetor off, some junk bits fell out (not sure where from), gave it a quick clean and its good now.
jet wasn't blocked as such, but maybe something was blocking it and fell out when i took it apart. :thumb:

If you dont already have a fuel filter installed put one on as it will save you many problems later on.

You should put one between the tank and the petcock/pump and even one between the petcock and carb won't hurt. You can find them in the lawn mower section of any hardware store.

Find the fuel line coming from the bottom of the gas tank, you will most likely have two lines, one will be the vacuum hose and it will run into the intake manifold (area where the carb hooks to the motor). The other one will be your fuel line and it will run into the side of the carb, follow that line and there should be if one is installed a small round or cone shaped piece that is the fuel filter. If the line is one complete piece without anything resembling what I described then you will need to install one.
