My ex scooter riding buddy that recently came down with a severe case of Harleyidus was sitting at a stoplight in his utility body work truck Tuesday morning, and got rear ended by a Harley. The guy that hit him is a mechanic at the Harley dealership, and he was test riding a customers bike. He was wearing a helmet and did not go over the bars because he wisely laid it down. However he broke his thigh bone right above the knee.

Thank goodness the truck didn't get messed up.

Sad. Machines can be fixed or replaced, injuries to people are forever.

Wonder how pissed the customer was when he found out. I'm sure insurance will cover it, but still.

Wonder how pissed the customer was when he found out. I'm sure insurance will cover it, but still. Yeah, many Harley riders are crazy about their bikes. I do feel sorry for the guy, hope it does not jeopardize his job. He claims the FRONT brake locked up, but the investigation shows he locked the REAR brake and skidded 40', flat spotted the REAR tire. It does not make a lot of sense, he must have been looking down at the bike or something because he clearly was not looking forward.

S**t happens, it should not jeopardize his job but then one never knows.
Test ride == attention to the bike, not traffic.
There was an article in the news the other day on physics proving you cannot text and drive. It just takes a second to look at the phone, radio, briefcase, purse, vanity mirror, or the laptop/tablet, etc, or the bike in this case, -unfortunately a vehicle travels a Loooong way in that second.

..... -unfortunately a vehicle travels a Loooong way in that second. Yes it certainly does! And sooo much can happen in that second.

A sad thing. I'd guess that if the guy is good at his job, then this probably won't cause him to lose it. But his credibility has been strained and he'd better not make a similar mistake anytime soon.
And the last few posts, dealing with distracted driving and how much can happen in just a second or so, are spot-on target. Yet say, "It sure would be better if people would just slow down a bit" and you get mostly blank looks and slack jaws.

Don't like to see anyone hurt. Good job he had a helmet on. No ABS on those Harleys then? Looks like he panicked and just locked the rear up. Would of stopped much quicker using the front too.

Glad he wasn't hurt worse. Note! Rubber (tires) have Much More Friction than steel parts. Keep it upright and use the brakes!
