Hello, new guy from Vegas. Recently had my 2013 Taotao stolen and butchered for parts. Got it back, but its in several pieces. Surprisingly it still runs, but in its current state, its not "street legal."
Anyway, ill be fixing it soon, and i am not really all that handy, so im sure ill have loads of questions for everyone, so apologies in advance for that, haha.

Welcome to the worlds best scooter forum. That's terrible about the scooter being stolen. I just discovered 5+thousands of dollars worth of my construction tools were stolen from my storage locker. Good luck.

Yeah, the registration was probably the key factor in then finding it and contacting me so quickly. Unfortunately, Vegas PD contracts towing out to a few less than stellar companies, and i got probably the worst of the bunch. Cost me $331 to get it back. But thats another story, haha.

$331 to tow a little sub-200lb $600 scooter.... the guys that originally took the scooter don't sound like the only thieves.

For the impound fee being half the cost of a new scooter, I'd just let them keep it (if it didn't screw up your credit rating, that happened to me. I was in the process of selling a car and the landlord had it towed. I told him to pay the impound as it had a license on it, but he didn't).

Yeah, they told me it was "driveable" over the phone, and i made the mistake of not looking before i paid them. But yeah, out here, if i didnt pay to get the scooter back, theyd sell it and if that didnt cover the towing fee, theyd send me to collections.
Its a ridiculous system. Only saving grace is the scooter was in great condition before the thieves got hold of it, so i just need to figure out what they broke / stripped and replace it. So far, ive identified needing to fix the starter / throttle, air filter and air filter housing, various screws and bolts, probably a little wiring, and something on the opposite side of the air filter. Theres nothing there, but the hole and dangling wires lead me to believe there used to be, lol.
Ill theow some pics up this weekend, I assume my questioms should be in the 4 stroke repair section? I dont want to clutter up the wrong topic.
