Hey guys! Midwesterner checking in. Just joined the forum today after finding some super helpful info from 90GTVert on YouTube. Seriously, thanks for your tips, tricks, and advice, and I look forward to soaking up everyone else's scoot knowledge like a sponge. I'm new to the scooter game and my first one arrives tomorrow. My dad has a Yamaha Vino 50cc which is the only scooter I've ridden, and I've been hooked ever since. I have a TaoTao atm50-a1 coming in tomorrow and I'm stoked! I'm wanting to break it in for a bit and then throw a 47mm BBK on there for that extra torque in the hills. I'd love to hear from other TaoTao owners on how their scoots are hanging in there and any mods you have done. Also, I always welcome advice and what not. Other than that, I'm just going to follow 90GTVert's vids and should be rockin and rollin in no time.

Yea thanks for the link! I'm definitely going to do a full PDI. I seem to have the absolute worst luck with shipping companies so I'm crossing my fingers on this one..

Mountainman,
Smartdeals Now too. I'm finding the tracking process to be spotty. Kind of tests a guy's patience. Mine anyway.

You know what's testing my patience? 90GTVert's videos. I thought these were going to be helpful but god dammit, they didn't say shit about how tough it would be to get that f'ing front wheel on there... I'm barely into the assembly and it's already proving to be a bitch. It was a bitch getting the kick stand extension on there and it was a bitch getting the front wheel on there, and those are the only 2 steps I've done so far. I'm really not happy right now.

I just don't like it when videos make it look easy but it's not.

I just don't like it when videos make it look easy but it's not. I don't try to make anything look easier than it is. Sometimes it gets easier when you've done 50 of them. I'm not a pro that does it all right and doesn't fill the garage with curse words regularly, but I have lived and breathed scoots for quite a while now. Take your time and make sure you examine the parts involved so you know what you have to line up and so on. It may take a few tries to get the axle through while it's all aligned.

I'm guessing you're talking about the nut for the bolt that goes through the handlebars. You could prob take the bolt to a hardware store and get one that would work. Prob won't have a flange nut like the stock one likely is, but a washer could be used under it.

Update: I'm beyond upset with this purchase. I watched probably 24 hours worth of video prior to receiving this bike, and not once did anyone mention just how shoddy it really is. Like, what is your guys' standard for quality? I mean, I knew I was getting a chinese bike, but this is even worse than expected. I've been in the car audio game for over 10 years, and have taken off door panels, ceiling panels, hell, even entire interiors I've taken out, and not once did I find a panel as shoddy as what's on this bike. I seem to have already broken some of the tabs holding the front pieces of the body together. Every screw just immediately tries to strip on this thing. It's a royal pain in the ass to even work on it because everything feels like it's going to break at any given time. I took it for a ride down the street and the engine does not sound very good either. Obviously I'm going to give this thing some more time but at the moment I'm extremely disappointed with this purchase.
Edit: also, lifting up on the rear of the bike BENDS THE RACK! What?! You're supposed to be able to lift the bike by that but when I do that it bends the actual rack on the bike. Is that normal?
Edit: also, the manual that was included was for the wrong bike. I do not have a manual for the bike that I purchased.

My Dongfang is a clone of the Taotao ATM-50, same body panels, everything. In fact I ordered a couple Taotao replacement panels for it. link to my Dongfang Sunny style thread; 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/7550/sunny-df50ste-47mm-parts-modsI also tuned the CVT for more mph and did a 47mm BBK install that is all in that thread. 47mm BBK install is really easy. To make it easier to put the front wheel on, remove the brake caliper (2 bolts that fasten it to the fork), put the wheel on and axle (keeping the speedometer puck in place as well as the spacer on the other side takes practice). After the wheel is all on, then install the brake caliper over the disk and put the 2 bolts back in. By removing the caliper, your not fighting that extra lineup that requires about 5 hands to do. This is the easiest way for me to put a front wheel on.
