This is one of my Z's that is set up to run on road courses. These pics are from a few years ago. Since I have cleaned it up more and done a little more suspension work with fully adjustable struts and control arms with heim joints instead of the urethane bushing I had in it. The motor from the factory is a 2.8L that makes 170 crank HP which comes out to around 135 whp. I have built this one to full GT2 specs like they were back in the day when they were raced. It is now 3.2L and makes 273 whp and 268 ft/lbs of torque. It weighs 2410 lbs and runs 12.92 @ 107 in the quarter. it is not setup to drag race though. I was running on 8" wide autocross tires so I had too much traction in the front to be drag racing! I bought this car as a rolling shell for $50 from a friend back in 97'

I was a Z car man many years ago,had a 71 240,the ex had a 74 260,my buddy had a 70 240,,they were fun cars!Tended to rust out easy though..I later switched over to a 71 510 and enjoyed it as much as the 240...
PS,you ought to put some headlight covers on your 280,makes the car look a lot slicker!!

I have had several 240's also. I like the 280's a little better mainly because the chassis uses thicker guage metal and is just stiffer. I will take the weight penalty for that rigidity. They are all fun as are the 510's, I have been in quite a few of them also but never owned one.
I have headlight covers but I ran into a bird doing a little over 130 on road Atlanta. So I need one!
They do rust and it is getting harder to find good ones the prices are going way up also.

Can't say I've ever been a fan, but that is a nice ride and it sounds like you have a lot of fun with it.

Looks like you have made a real nice job of saving the 280. Very rare car over here. You see a few of the earlier 240/260's at shows, but not many 280's.

In the 80's my neighbor bought a 280 turbo car new. We were and are best friends but I've never so much as sat in it lol. He had it all redone a few years ago and this spring I seen it on a trailer leaving his place. Asked what was up and he said it was taking up room he needed for his tractor so he gave it to his brother in Utah. Guess I'll never get a ride in it now lol

i had a 79 280zx that my grandpas race shop did a hi compression build with some headwork and some old pacesetter headers and another 79 280zx with a boosted L28. next up was an 85 300zx turbo anniversary edition. it was a fun car, but n/A 280 was my favorite and cost me my license 😢. i eventually graduated to a Porsche 928gt at age 20

I think the 240Z is cool as a mofo guy in my hood has a 240z with 454 chevy chained in it for the 1/8 nile local strips. kinda trips you out when your windows rattle and you look out to see a z car in the street

I owned a 240Z for a couple weeks when I first got my licence. I had this crazy idea I could fix the rotted out floor boards not realizing how bad they really were.
I will say that revvy inline six move that car along very well. Just too bad I did not have the tools and a place to work on it and fix it right. I sold it to a friend that drove it for a few months before it got wrecked.

Very nice car!! Incredible craftsmanship. The attention to detail with that car is top notch. It reminds me of the z from the anime wangan midnight

You Car is beautiful! I have been driving them since my friends "Persimmon" 260Z in '76? I must admit to not enjoying the serious over steer. I last had a nice drive in a Chevy powered Z at the 25 hour endurance race at Thunder Hill Raceway about ten years ago. That car was super fun and dialed in with just a bit of over-steer.

Here is another of my cars. 95 GT Vert for 90GTVert! This car ended up having a 331cu with a nice turbo and lots of other mods. Made 490 whp and was a lot of fun. The Z is still a lot more fun to drive unless your just going for straight hwy speed. I have built 6 Z's ranging from 72' 240's 77 & 78 280's. I enjoy bringing them back from the dead into plenty reliable for daily drivers to track cars. I have driven this blue one from NC to Cali and back, pretty much all over the country to shows and joy rides. They do oversteer if stock on worn suspension. I like driving with the tail out! With after market suspension you can tune them to understeer, oversteer or be neutral. It takes me about 2 minutes to change mine with a simple strut adjustment, the twist of a screwdriver. I will be working on a 72' 240 including installing an LS3 and T56 tranny. It will be a monster. The goal is 650 whp which should be easy and reliable. Thanks again guys for the kind words! Matt
