Hi All,
I just purchasd my first used scooter tonight. It's been used and cosmetically abused but I'll try to straighten it out some. It's a Renegade 50 and after a quick search here I'm finding its very similar to a Tao Tao. My brother has one and I Must admit it is very much the same.
i belong to about 5 other motorcycle forums so I have an idea how this works. Will look over the scoot To become more familiar with it. For the most part I work on my own bikes and admit to not knowing everything so I'll be throwing out questions from time to time.
At the moment I may be having fuel pump issues according to the previous owner but need to check it out myself.
Enough for now but I'll be back.

Welcome to the forum Taz. The great thing about scooters is once you get the panels off they are very easy to work on. Parts are cheap too. 😀

When the fuel tank is above the carb, as it should be on that model from a quick search, you usually have a vacuum petcock rather than a fuel pump. The petcock uses a vacuum signal from the engine running or cranking to open and allow fuel through. It shuts off if the engine is not running, or should if all is working properly. They are pretty common failure points and I replace mine with manual fuel shutoffs that you can find in small engine shops or even mower sections in home improvement or hardware stores usually. The big plus with the vacuum petcock is ease of use. It does it's thing without you needing to touch it. You actually have to remember to switch the manual valve on and off as needed. The upside of the manual shutoff is they hardly ever fail. If you have a petcock issue, it's usually either that it won't shutoff the fuel supply and that may lead to overflowing from the carb (which may point to a float issue as well) or that it won't deliver any fuel.

Ya I understand the vacuum petcock. It also has the 3 nipple vacuum fuel pump which I'm surprised these scooters have. I need to troubleshoot it to see what the hecks going on. There's a fuel filter that seems to be full of fuel so I didn't know if it's over fueling it. The filter is a lawn mower type so I've been told.
EDIT: I'm trying to figure out how to post in this forums format. They all seem to work different. I tried quoting 90GT but it didn't work as planned.

The mower filter shouldn't be an issue. I wonder if someone else added the pump. They don't usually come with a petcock and pump and gravity feeding is all that is necessary when the tank is above the carb as it should be on that model if it's like the TaoTao ATM50 as I'm seeing in a search.
Just hit the "Quote" button above a post to quote it. Then you need to type after the end quote tag (below for reference) before hitting the post reply button.
Make sure you type after this :

We're glad you joined up. You'll find good help and info here.
Did some cleaning of it this weekend. There was a bunch of spray painted saying. Something about Level Five. Took apart the gauge cluster to address the broken plastic covering. Those just clip on so I would think you could buy just the cover but I wouldn't be surprised if you can't. And it looks like you can't buy just that. Whole cluster seems to be cheap enough but still don't want to buy the whole thing damn it.
Might be a carb vacuum leak as it holds it rev high for a few seconds then comes down. Needs a speedo cable.
The PO said that it'll run for a few minutes then dies. He thought it seemed like it was running out of gas and the vacuum fuel pump may be the culprit. I have not run it long enough yet to experience that situation. Gonna find out this weekend as I'm using as a pit bike during my race weekend at Loudon.
Bleed the front brakes. Boy is that MC small. and it had a bunch of junk/gel in it. I can lockup the front wheel now with it. Gonna work on the front wheel stands now, HA! Seems to go pretty good on the road but I've only riden it less than a mile.
Learning the way the things work and put together and it seems pretty simple. Some good info here.

Welcome to the worlds best scooter forum. I didn't know squat about gy6,variators,etc. As I've said before in this forum, watch 90verts videos, pay attention to forum members setups. And this reminds me,I have to make a donation to the world's best forum.

The cdi/coil/carbs he was selling seemed to good to be true. I'm going to check out those videos.

Hi again Tas, Just though I would give you a welcome from afar, though you are active with some threads already. SennaRossi asked if you were active road racer...or what you raced. Did not see a response.
Just a small world note. I am a former road racer from the US. (AFM, AMA, AMA Pro Endurance and more) I live in Thailand, born in Baltimore. Lived in Wisconsin, Minnesota, California, Utah and Montana.
I have been to Loudon for the Nationals as a competitor in the short 125GP series once and 250 GP twice. I have fond memories of a podium finish my second time there...not from my fast bike or riding talent, but my lucky ability to avoid a last lap crash which took out the top 4 riders. Hehe! Life has it's moments.

Hi Thai,
I'm at Loudon now from the July race weekend. Had a disappointing amateur lightweight Grand Prix race today. I'm second place in points but only finished 7th today. I was off pace between a second to 2. Have two more tomorrow. I race a stock Sv650. Going to get after it tomorrow.
