Hi guys. Quick question. My Triton R4 is doing something new, it started about a month ago. It used to pick up pretty well from a full stop, even on hills. But now when i accelerate from a full stop it kind of sputters for a few seconds and then eventually starts going like normal. Not sure what it is. I used to always give full throttle when going from a full stop and it worked great. However now i noticed that this problem is worst when I give full throttle, so now I seem to get better results if I give only slight throttle from a full stop and then gradually increase the throttle as I gain speed. If it matters, this scoot has 5900 miles on it.
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Make sure all of your connections are secure to the airbox, carb, and intake first. If it's been 5900 miles since a service, you might want to open the airbox up and check the air filter and clean if necessary.

I will check the airbox. I know that when I took the airbox apart last year alot of rubber was cracked and dryrotted. However I put it back together and it ran fine. Could this really cause a problem such as this?
Also i got the scooter used last year with 3900 miles on it, so not sure of the care given to it prior to that. However so far I have changed the battery, stator, regulator, ignition coil, spark plug CDI box, gear oil, brake fluid and switched to synthetic oil for the oil injection.
Havent done any work on the carb and have only cleaned the air filter last year and noticed the dry rotting.
Let me know what you think.
Thanks

I'm thinking it may be an air or fuel issue. These 2Ts are sensitive, so it could be a problem with too much or not enough air. That's an easy place to check first.

Any good way to test if it is the air filter assembly without buying a new one first? I assume not, but figured i would ask before i ordered one.
THanks

Just look it over basically. Does the filter look dirty, clogged, torn, etc...? Airbox sealed together relatively well? Clamps secure? Cracks in the intake?

Ok, sorry this update is so late. Took the airbox off and opened it up, filter is good. Put everything back. noticed alot of cracks in the rubber hose that connects to the card with the spring clamp. Rubber is definitely dryrotting, however doesnt look like the cracks go through all the way.
Also another issue has cropped up over the past 2 weeks. Not only does it still hesitate when starting from a stop, the scoot has started stalling when coming to a stop and idling. I have been able to work around this issue but giving the scoot some throttle while at a stop and holding the rear brake. Have stalled out twice at stop lights so far and it can be quite scary. I am thinking this problem and the hesitation problem are both directly related. I have tried air/fuel mixture screw as well as idle screw, but it still stalls out at stops. Runs great though when riding at full throttle.
Carb issues?

Something I ran into w/ my r4 recently- the part of the throttle cable that goes into the carb was hitting the bottom of my seat and was at an angle that caused poor acceleration from a stop. Check that? Maybe your rollers are flat spotted from WOT off the line all the time? Its been 2000 miles already right?
