Sooooo today I was given a pallet of industrial grade 3 phase capacitors. Anyone got any ideas on what I can use them for? And yes I've already thought of Jurassic parks electric fence. I'm hoping to be able to use them as storage for an off grid electric system. any advice would be helpful.

depends on their capacity, if they are something that is used in motor starting etc, they won't have much storage capacity it doesn't take many micro farads to start a motor

These are for a capacitor bank, not the little ones for motor starting.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAh-xgATrWw capacitors are not meant to store large amounts of energy like a battery, but to rapidly charge and discharge , as far as using them for an off grid electrical system they are not designed for that type of use, you need batteries, you also can't store AC but only DC and you have to invert to AC from the batteries

Ummmmmm, yeah found a new use for them. They seem to go for about $200 each on ebay. So yeah.

You can only store DC in a cap. True. But a big motor start cap ( AC unit/ Air compressor) can knock the sh!it outta you, and it damn sure feels like AC.

It's only storing half the waveform as DC

Oh yeah, maybe I worded myself incorrectly. I just meant that at full charge, being hit by a can cap feels like grabbing a live house wire. And the little bastards usually have extra metal tabs and are hidden in an area where I stupidly stick my hand and brush those contacts against the backside of my hand.
