What's up guys. So I have an old old old stihl weed trimmer and I have never ever has this issue b4. So usually when I start it I prime it turn it to choke let it try to run switch it to run them bam good to go. Now for some reason I cant get it to start under its own power. I gotta take the plug out then dip it in gas then it runs fine. What could it be? I cleaned the carb out a few times but still nothing.

old old stihl weed trimmer If you have not already done so . . verify muffler exhaust port (spark arrestor screen) is not obstructed with carbon.

Unfortunately it doesn't take much inside a carburetor like that to make them not run correctly. Plus they usually block the adjustment screw and are always tuned one click before lean.
Today's pump gas is not friendly to these engines, especially to rubber diaphragms.

Carbon and oil buildup will occur when those machines are throttled or 'gunned'. They only run correctly at idle and full throttle, nothing in between. I have seen the problem so many times I am surprised the manufacturers just don't make a two position 'switch' for the throttle.

Fixed Edit: it won't let me changed what you posted in the quote, lol basically I was saying to bin the spark arrestor if it is still fitted! Kit the carb (new kits are dirt cheap from the likes of AliExpress), run decent oil and as FrankenMech more or less say's give it death lol

I have the same trimmer. Does your have the Tekei carb? I love old Stihl equipment. Got that, a fs63e and a pair of XL12 chain saws one with a 24 inch bar and one 18.
Long as you keep the carb, lines, filter, tank and exhaust clean, a sthil runs forever.

A friend and I used a 2T engine from a 20' long chainsaw for a go-kart engine.

Before my time, McCulloch 2t engines were a thing on go karts.

We blew away even dual engine McCulloch karts like they were standing still. We had to baby it or it would blow through tires like this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xbZt9-xtuUPretty much ran the same as above except we didn't have any gears, just stomp and go. It burned clutches fairly rapidly also. I wish I remember how many cubes the engine was. It had something like a 3.5" bore and a fairly long stroke. Probably at least 400cc.
